This PLC must be capable of communicating with 10 VFDs over a network, likely utilizing Ethernet I/P, so it's essential that the selected PLC includes built-in communication function blocks and offers seamless networking capabilities. Additionally, it should handle PID control effectively, but we do not anticipate extensive complexity in the near future. I've reviewed the specifications, and on paper, it seems like an ideal choice. However, I’m seeking feedback from users who have firsthand experience with this system. Is it as effective as it appears? Is it user-friendly? My previous experience with Automation Direct's older software (DirectSOFT) was not satisfactory, so I’m hoping the newer offerings are significantly better. If the software proves to be inefficient and extends my programming timeline, the anticipated cost savings will diminish. For the past year, we’ve experienced exceptional service with the P3000 while collaborating with an OEM partner. We utilize E/IP technology for 3-5 drives, which closely matches the form and functionality of Allen-Bradley's product line. The software solutions released by AD for the three new series—DoMore, Click, and Productivity—are significantly superior to the previous DirectSoft platform. I truly hope I never have to revert to the older version.
I anticipate that you may encounter limitations with the number of EtherNet/IP (E/IP) connections for managing 10 drives. However, these connections can effectively interface with a wide variety of GS drives from Allen-Bradley (AD). Additionally, I currently have approximately seven P2000 panels in operation, all of which are functioning optimally. The oldest unit has been in service for around two years and continues to operate smoothly without any issues. Each panel utilizes multiple Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controllers for environmental regulation and communicates seamlessly with a local Human-Machine Interface (HMI) at each location. Furthermore, these panels are integrated with my Ignition system, which serves as a comprehensive plant-wide interface. Although the programming experience may not be as refined as that of Rockwell, it does offer numerous helpful shortcut features, and I have found the transition to be quite manageable.
