Best Replacement Options for CPU 363: Alternatives to Consider

Question:

Hello! I am currently searching for CPU 363 but have been unable to find it readily available. I would like to know if I can replace CPU 363 with any of the following alternatives: CPU 350, CPU 351, CPU 352, CPU 360, CPU 364, or CPU 374. I would appreciate your guidance on this matter. My main goal is simply to install a new CPU and download the necessary program; I do not intend to perform any additional tasks. Which of these CPUs would be the best replacement for CPU 363? Thank you in advance for your assistance!

You now have three locations to find my response. Any misunderstanding is entirely self-created.

Thank you for your response in the other discussion thread.

It's possible that he was exploring various alternatives for the ideal combination of quality, speed, and affordability. He successfully achieved all three with this choice, but sadly, the rest of us did not have the same luck. My initial hunch points to the numbers 364 and 374.

Steve's Response: "It's advisable to initiate a new discussion thread, particularly since this conversation pertains to an Allen Bradley PLC, whereas your inquiry relates to GE. Provided the program's size is manageable and fits within the memory limits of the alternative CPUs, it should function effectively. Be aware that the CPU350, CPU351, and CPU352 have less memory capacity compared to the CPU363. Additionally, if you're utilizing one of the serial ports on the CPU363, your options for compatible CPUs are restricted to those with serial ports, which include the CPU351 or CPU352. Please note that the serial port on the Ethernet-enabled CPU models is solely designated for firmware updates, not for communication with HMIs or other external systems."

Variations exist in the compiled runtime files sent to different CPU models. To ensure compatibility, you need to open your project using Proficy Machine Edition and adjust the CPU model settings in the hardware configuration. This will enable the essential updates to the runtime file. It's important to note that while the programs are designed to work with all listed CPU models, compatibility may be influenced by memory limitations. Additionally, keep in mind that the CPU363 features two serial ports, which may not be present on all other models.

Hey! It really depends on what you need from your system, but generally, CPUs like the CPU 360 or CPU 364 are more likely to be compatible as they’re closer in specs to the CPU 363. The CPU 350, 351, and 352 may not provide the same performance, and the CPU 374 could be a bit overkill if you just want basic functions. It’s always a good idea to check for compatibility with your existing hardware and software too. Good luck!
