Compatibility of CCW v20+ with Older Micro850 (2080-LC50-*) CPUs - Clarification Needed

Question:

Hello experts, I have a question about the compatibility between the discontinued Micro850 series (2080-LC50-*) CPUs and the latest CCW software version 20 or higher, including version 22. Can these two be used together? I understand that a software version 21 or newer is required to work with the newer 2080-L50E-* CPU models. However, I am curious if the same version of the CCW software is compatible with older models as well. I believe I have a 2080-LC50 CPU with firmware version 7.2 (although I am not certain based on the image I have). If anyone has solid information on this topic (or a link to a relevant online document), please share it to help clarify this for me. Thank you and best regards, AKP. PS. I apologize if this question has been asked before, but I have not found a clear answer yet.

To determine compatibility with your system, simply create a new project in CCW and select a CPU. If your CPU is listed, then it is compatible. For example, I am currently using V22 on my PC which includes all LC50's and L50E's in its compatibility list. It's important to ensure compatibility before proceeding with your project to avoid any issues down the line.

After researching on the Rockwell PCDC website, I found that the 2080-LC50-24AWB firmware versions v12.011 and v12.012 are compatible with CCW v12 and newer, up to v22. If your Micro850 is running on firmware version v12.013, you will need CCW v13 or a more recent version. This information should be relevant to all 2080-LC50 models. The reason I selected 24AWB specifically is because it was the PLC listed first in the options available.

I want to express my gratitude to @JLand and @geniusintraining for their prompt and insightful feedback. I will definitely take their comments into consideration moving forward.

Hey AKP, great question! While Micro850 series (2080-LC50-*) CPUs are a bit older, they're still quite reliable. As far as I know, the newer versions of the CCW software (version 20 and above) should still be compatible with these models. However, the level of functionality might differ depending on the specific version of your CPU and firmware. CCW has quite robust backward compatibility. Your firmware version of 7.2 may or may not have limitations, so make sure to cross-check with the specific CCW software version you're intending to use. For the most reliable source of this information, I would recommend checking out the manufacturer's compatibility documentation on their website. You should be able to find a CPU-software compatibility matrix there, which would give you a definitive answer.
