Convert FactoryTalk View ME .MER File from Version 6.0 to 5.0

Question:

Hello, I need help converting a 6.0 mer file to a 5.0 format. I have edited the file in FTview Studio 13 and successfully converted it to version 6.0. I am now seeking assistance to downgrade it to version 5.0 for compatibility with an older FT ME station. Any guidance or support would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings Turlong! By updating your system with the latest rollup patch from Rockwell, you can now create v5 runtimes using FTSVME v13. Initially, v13 did not come with v5 runtimes, but this was rectified with a subsequent patch release.

Thank you for helping me locate the roll-up patch for FTSVME 12. Would you be able to share a link for the latest version, FTSVME 13? I am in the process of researching it.

I believe this is the information you are seeking (hopefully the provided link is still relevant). Discover where to access popular downloads.

I was in the process of installing a patch from November 2022 on an older system, but decided to scrap that and opt for the latest version as recommended. Thank you once again for the advice. I will update you on the results once the installation is complete.

The method was successful. I greatly appreciate it.

Hey there! It seems like you're in a bit of a pickle. Unfortunately, directly downgrading a .mer file from v6.0 to v5.0 isn't officially supported by Rockwell - once you've bumped it up, it's fixed that way to encourage upgrading the hardware. A potential workaround can be re-creating the application in a v5.0 environment, but this may be time-consuming and at the risk of errors if the project is comprehensive. Alternatively, check if your FT ME Station hardware can be firmware upgraded to support version 6.0. Hope that helps a bit.

Hi, the best way I found to downgrade the mer file is to open it in FactoryTalk View Studio, then do a 'Save As' and in the options, you can select the version you need. However, if I remember correctly, FactoryTalk doesn't support direct conversion from 6.0 to 5.0. You might need to downgrade to version 5.1 first, then to 5.0. Just remember to backup your files before starting the process. Hope this works for you.

Hey there! I'm not sure if FTView directly supports downgrading from 6.0 to 5.0. Usually, it's suggested to maintain a backup of your older version before upgrading. You may need to co tact Rockwell support for any official method. However, as a workaround, can you recall the changes you made? If they're not extensive, you could manually recreate them in a 5.0 version file. Not ideal, I know, but it might serve as a temporary solution until you figure out a proper fix. Best of luck!
