Convert .rss file to .pdf for PLC lab - Need help viewing ladder logic

Question:

Greetings PLCs Forum community, I am facing a dilemma and need some assistance. I have a .rss file and I am looking to view the ladder logic within it. If anyone is able to convert this file into a .PDF format, it would be greatly appreciated. I am currently a student and need to write a report on my program, but unfortunately forgot to save or print it before leaving the lab. Thank you in advance for any assistance provided. - New Student, fnick50

Hey fnick50, it seems like you're in quite a predicament. Unfortunately, directly converting an .rss file to a .pdf might not retain the ladder logic in a readable form. You can open the .rss file in RSLogix (500 or 5000 depending on your PLC) and you should be able to see the ladder logic. From there, you can take screenshots or print the views and compile them into a .pdf file. In future, ensure you save your project both in .rss and some sort of documentation format to prevent this situation. Good luck with your report!

Hey there fnick50! It's indeed a tough spot to be in. Unfortunately, converting directly from .rss to .pdf might not yield the results you're hoping for because the conversion process would simply take the code text and not the actual ladder logic diagram. That said, you could try opening your .rss file with RSLogix5000 and then take screen shots of the ladder diagrams. After that, you can use any basic editing software to compile these screenshots into a .pdf. Of course, this approach assumes you have access to RSLogix5000. If not, let's hope someone else in the community has a workaround. Best of luck with your report!
