Is it necessary to buy RS LINX and RS Logix 5000 alongside emulate, or does emulate 5000 already come with all the necessary program platforms?
Unfortunately, purchasing RSLogix Emulate 5000 does not automatically include RSLogix 5000/Logix Designer. In fact, RSLogix Emulate 5000 is more of a supplementary software that comes with the purchase of RSLogix 5000/Studio 5000 Professional Edition, or can be bought separately with other Editions. To use RSLogix Emulate 5000, you must already have RSLogix 5000 or Studio 5000. Version differences may also affect which projects you can work on, depending on the Operating System you are using. RSLogix Emulate 5000 simulates processors and chassis for testing purposes, serving as a valuable tool for debugging. Keep in mind that while it is an additional feature to the programming software, it is not free. Additionally, RSLinx Classic Lite is typically included in most software products from Rockwell. If it isn't, you can always download it for free. Best regards, George
Does RS Linx Lite's free version support RS Logix 5000 without requiring a separate license for RS Linx?
Absolutely.
Is Emulate v17 compatible with RSLogix 5000 v20?
In order to use a virtual controller with Emulate, the versions must match up. While older versions of Emulate may support firmware updates slightly behind the current version, a version 17 Emulate will not be compatible with version 20. For example, my version 24 Emulate can create a controller compatible with version 20. The compatibility of Emulate with earlier versions beyond 20 is unclear.
From my understanding, purchasing RSLogix 5000 and RS Linx is indeed necessary, as Emulate 5000 is primarily a software simulator to mimic PLC operations. It doesn't come bundled with the programming or communication platform software. Emulate only simulates the PLC process for testing your written code. For actual PLC code writing and communication, you will definitely need RSLogix 5000 and RS Linx. Ensure to clarify this with your vendor when making your purchase!
From my understanding, RS Logix 5000 and Emulate 5000 are independent software. Emulate 5000 is a simulator while RS Logix 5000 is a programming platform. They're designed to work together but they don't come bundledβso, yes, you would need both for simulation and programming tasks. As for RS LINX, it's primarily for communication tasks between devices, so it's likely necessary depending on your specific setup and requirements.
