I am attempting to set up RSLinx Classic Lite on a distant computer in order to utilize the Clock Sync Tool, However, I continue to encounter the following error: Code: Error 1320. The given path is too lengthy - C:\ProgramData\Documents\Rockwell Automation. Despite making a registry adjustment to allow for longer paths and restarting multiple times, the issue persists. Is there a known solution for this? Please be aware that this computer is operating on Windows 7 Embedded and cannot be upgraded to Windows 10 as it is located remotely. See attached screenshot for reference.
Streamline the process by abbreviating Rockwell Automation to RA.
When installing the program, I am unable to select the installation location. The problem is not with the main installation folder, but with a hidden settings folder that cannot be easily accessed or changed during installation.
It seems that the error message may be misguiding you. The path displayed is a typical installation path. The issue is likely due to the remote installation process. Is the installer stored on the remote machine's drive or on a network? How are you accessing the machine - through VNC or Remote Desktop?
The installer can be found on the Remote PC's desktop, where I am currently connected via RDP. I have removed the installation folder and am now in the process of re-extracting it. I will attempt the installation again once this is completed. Although I feel like I have attempted this before, I have been working on this task on and off for about a week now.
When accessing Rockwell Software remotely via RDP, strange behavior may occur, as hinted at by dmroeder. To potentially avoid detection by the installer, it is recommended to consider using VNC instead.
It seems like you've taken the important first step of altering the registry. However, this error might not be because of the character length itself, but rather the specific path that you're trying to use. One possibility could be to consider abbreviating the folder names or creating a virtual drive pointing to the directory in question, thus shortening the path. And as a general tip, remeber that Windows 7 Embedded does indeed support paths up to 32,767 characters, but many programs, including some parts of the .NET Framework itself, still use the old 259 character limit, which might be a crucial factor.
