Fixing Incorrect Scaling Issues on Analog Input Card 1771-IFE in ControlLogix Systems

Question:

Subject: Need Help with Incorrect Scaling on Analog Input (AI Card 1771-IFE) in ControlLogix System Hello, A few years back, we upgraded our outdated PLC5 system to a ControlLogix platform by integrating a 1756 processor. We are now utilizing the legacy PLC5 racks and cards as Remote I/O modules. Currently, I'm facing an issue with one of the analog inputs (AI Card 1771-IFE), as the scaling appears to be incorrect. Upon reviewing the incoming data in Logix5000, I notice that it seems to be already scaled, but the values are outside the expected range. Typically, one can adjust the raw minimum and maximum values in the channel settings. However, when I access the properties of the analog cards, I find that the configuration tab is missing. Has anyone encountered a similar issue or found a solution to this problem? Your insights or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

To optimize your ControlLogix programming, start by examining your code for an MSG (Message) instruction configured for a BTW (Block Transfer Write) operation. This should reference the address of the specific IFE module you intend to troubleshoot. Within this MSG instruction, you'll find the "scaling" values that require modification, positioned within the data array being transmitted to the module. These values are represented in HEX format; for instance, the IFE module accepts a scaling value of 4095, which should be indicated as the decimal number 16533 in the data field. For ease of troubleshooting, consider sharing your complete project file and specifying the required scaling values for each channel on the IFE module. This approach allows forum members to assist you in calculating the correct values and instructing you on where to insert them in your data tags. You'll generally receive more helpful responses if you attach the file directly to this thread rather than using cloud storage solutions. Additionally, if you have an old .RSP file from the PLC-5 system, you can explore it for the original scaling values you need, provided that the setup remains unchanged. If your .ACD file is too large to upload—even after zipping—try using the File / Save As option to save it in .L5K format, which typically results in a smaller file size. Please note, when you access the properties of the analog cards, if the config tab is missing, it's because the latest RSLogix/Studio 5000 software may not fully support older 1771-IFE modules. The existing hardware will function correctly, but as the programmer, you’ll be responsible for all data conversions manually. Welcome to the forum, and best of luck with your ControlLogix project!
