How to add multiple objects to newly created ROUTES in Datastream 7i

Question:

How can I add a list of objects to newly created 'ROUTES' in Datastream 7i? It seems that Datastream 7i only allows for one object to be created at a time. Is there a workaround for adding multiple object data from an Excel spreadsheet?

Currently, we are utilizing Datastream 7i version 7.10. Whenever I establish a ROUTE, I must input the equipment individually. It seems that utilizing the Upload Utility for this task is not feasible, and loading values on the backend may pose safety risks. The database contains a chaotic mix of related and orphaned tables.

I used to believe I was making mistakes, but thanks to Smink's guidance, I now have a clearer understanding.

If you want to add equipment to a current route, go to the menu bar and choose work/work order planning/routes. Next, select the route and go to the equipment tab where you can input all the necessary equipment details. While the upload utility allows for adding new equipment, it cannot link equipment to routes. Feel free to reach out if you have any inquiries regarding routes or the import utility. Feel free to contact me for further assistance. Jennifer.

Hey Smink! In my opinion, there are two effective ways to create Routes and add equipment to them. The first method involves using the Infor EAM interface, following the guide provided by Jennifer. Alternatively, you can opt for the second approach by utilizing a database tool to bulk load data from an Excel file. This method is ideal for handling large amounts of data efficiently. You can achieve this by querying the r5routes and r5routobjects tables using a database tool like PLSQL. These tables contain crucial information about routes and their relationships with assets. To add more data, simply export the existing results to a .csv file and import additional rows. Use the Text Importer tool to reload the updated .csv file back into the database. This process can also be applied to other tables and types of data such as Objects, Classes, and Parts. Feel free to reach out to me at nguyenhuutrong@credent.com.vn for any inquiries regarding Infor EAM.

Are you exploring the benefits of utilizing dynamic routes in your workflow? By creating a route template and specifying the equipment required, you can streamline the process of creating work orders. Yes, I faced the same issue initially. However, I found a workaround through scripting. In your case, you could create a script that reads data from Excel using a library like pandas in Python, and then generates a bunch of SQL insert statements. After that, you can execute these statements in Datastream. This way, you can bulk insert multiple objects in your ROUTES. Just remember to handle exceptions and commit your database transactions properly to avoid data inconsistency.

Sounds like you're trying to streamline your workload, good idea! You could potentially create a script using Python or another language to automate this process. The script would essentially act as a bridge, reading data from your Excel spreadsheet and then inputting that data into DataStream 7i. This kind of task is not uncommon, and you'll find plenty of resources online that could guide you on how to set this up. Remember to test it with a small amount of data first to iron out any potential issues before going full scale.

You can definitely streamline the process of adding multiple objects to 'ROUTES' in Datastream 7i by utilizing the import functionality. If your Excel spreadsheet is well-structured, you could save it as a CSV file and then leverage the 'Import from CSV' feature within the application. This allows you to load all your data in one go instead of creating each object individually. Just make sure your data fields match the required format in Datastream, and you should be good to go!

I totally understand the frustration; it can be a hassle when tools don't seem to support bulk actions. One workaround you might consider is using a VBA script in Excel to format your data into structured XML or JSON, if Datastream 7i allows for those formats. Then you could either import the file or use an API to push your multiple objects in one go, depending on what the system supports. It might take some initial setup, but it can save you a lot of time in the long run!
