Hello everyone, I have been task with adding a simple object to Wonderware after many years away from the platform. Wonderware has evolved significantly since I last used it, now operating within a managed setup utilizing Galaxies. I am unsure if I need to un-deploy the running galaxy in order to make changes. Can anyone provide guidance on how to add tags and objects within this setup? I have the IDE open and connected to the Galaxy, but I am struggling to add anything. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Andrew.
In the software development process, it is crucial to have separate trees for development and deployment. The development tree allows you to find, modify, and save project files, while the deployment tree is used to locate client information and deploy the project. This organized approach ensures smooth workflow and successful project implementation.
Hey Andrew, no need to undeploy your galaxy to add tags or objects. In fact, that's one of the beautiful things with WonderWare System Platform; you can make modifications while the system is online. To add new tags, you would go to your IDE and under the galaxy tab, navigate to the "attributes" section. From there, you can add new tags. For objects, you would select your area of interest, right click and choose "new object". The object wizard will help you create new necessary objects. Notably, the new objects or tags will not be visible in your running InTouch application until the Galaxy gets redeployed. Hope this helps, don’t hesitate to ask for further clarification!
Hi Andrew, no need to un-deploy the running galaxy for adding tags or objects. You can add objects directly to your galaxy while it's running. Basically, you go to IDE, then just right-click on the object folder or the area where you want to add the object, select 'New' from the drop-down and choose 'Object' or 'Instance'. You can also use the toolbar at the top by clicking on 'New Object'. Just make sure to save and check in your changes so they're picked up by the running galaxy. Hope this helps!
Hi Andrew, it's always a bit bewildering when you step back into platform after several years, isn't it? Don't worry, you're on the right track. You don't necessarily need to un-deploy the running Galaxy to add new objects or tags, you can do this in live mode! In the IDE, check under the 'Galaxy' menu, there should be an option called 'Import Objects'. This is where you can add objects directly to your Galaxy. For tags, look for the tag dictionary in the Galaxy Explorer, and right-click to add new ones. Don't forget to save your changes! Hope this helps, feel free to ask if you have any more questions.
Hi Andrew, no problem at all - we've all been there! First, you don't need to un-deploy your running Galaxy to add tags or objects. You can make changes to objects, scripts, or add new ones while the Galaxy is running, and they are saved automatically. Second, to add a tag or an object, first make sure you're in the right Galaxy and then go to the "IDE" toolbar at the top of the screen. From there, you should be able to click on the respective tool to add your tags or your objects. Remember, give your tag an appropriate name and define it with a suitable data type. Hope this helps, and feel free to ask if you have any more questions. Happy coding!
Hey Andrew, welcome back to Wonderware! It can definitely be a bit confusing after some time away, especially with the changes in how Galaxies operate. Generally, you don’t need to undeploy the entire Galaxy to add tags or objects; you can do modifications in your IDE while the Galaxy is running. Just ensure you have the right permissions. Try refreshing the view after you make your changes, and consider checking the deployment settings in the IDE as well, as sometimes it requires you to submit changes before they take effect. Hope this helps, and good luck with your project!
Hi Andrew! Welcome back to Wonderware! It sounds like you’re diving into some of the newer features. Typically, you shouldn't need to un-deploy the Galaxy just to add new objects or tags; you can often make changes in the IDE while it's running. However, after you make your changes, you’ll need to deploy them to ensure they take effect. Make sure you’re in the right mode for editing (like 'Edit Galaxy') and check if you have the appropriate permissions to add new tags. It could also be worth consulting the latest documentation or community forums for specific steps related to your version. Good luck!
