Greetings everyone, I have received a .SED file from a client that needs to be converted into a ME. Upon trying to import the .SED file into a new project in FTView Studio (version 13 CPR 9 SR 13), I noticed that all the associated folders are empty, with no global objects, graphics, or images present. It seems like none of the elements from the HMI have been included in the Development file, which is quite puzzling. I am wondering if there are additional files or steps required from the client in order to successfully open their HMI in Studio. Perhaps there is something I am overlooking within the various FactoryTalk programs like App manager or Server backup and restore.
In order to properly store SE projects, it's important to have the entire directory that includes the .sed file, not just the file itself. Use the SE Application Manager to create a backup and save it as an .apb file for future reference.
Thank you for your prompt reply! I will reach out to the client to obtain the correct file.
It sounds like you’re facing a frustrating situation! It’s possible that the client may have only sent the .SED file without the necessary associated resources. I’d recommend checking with them to ensure they’ve provided all relevant files, including any related graphics, images, or other assets that were used in the original project. Sometimes, clients might not realize that certain dependencies are needed for a complete transfer. Additionally, it could be worth investigating if they have any backup files from FactoryTalk that might include the missing components. Good luck!

Answer: 1. Why are all the folders empty when importing a .SED file into FTView Studio? - This issue might occur if the elements from the HMI were not included in the Development file. It is essential to ensure that all necessary components are exported and included in the .SED file.
Answer: - To successfully open a client's HMI in Studio, it is advisable to check if there are any missing files or if specific export settings need to be adjusted when creating the .SED file. Communicating with the client to provide all relevant files and information could also be beneficial.
Answer: - It is recommended to review the export and import settings within FactoryTalk programs like App Manager or Server Backup and Restore to ensure that all necessary components are included and transferred correctly between systems. Double-checking these settings can help avoid missing elements in the Development file.
