How to Check the List of Installed AOPs in RsLinx, Studio 5000, and Other Rockwell Applications

Question:

Is there a feature in RsLinx, Studio 5000, or other Rockwell applications that displays a list of the already added AOP's in your system? Any assistance on this matter is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Cody. On a recent project utilizing Controls Logix 5000 (20.01), I needed to incorporate AOP's to access an Ethernet Switch and a remote I/O block added by a previous team member. This marked my first experience adding a profile in Rslogix. These files are substantial and may require considerable time for unpacking and installation. Furthermore, downloading them can be time-consuming, especially with a slow internet connection. Hence, I am seeking information on where to view the list of installed AOP's in advance, allowing for preparation before arriving at the plant.

During the installation of RSL5K/S5000, users typically have the option to select which hardware AOPs to add. The "Add Device" utility serves as the primary tool for managing AOPs, displaying all installed options related to the system's location (such as Backplane or Remote Comms Adapter) when fully expanded and checked.

Thank you for your response, dmargineau. After contacting Rockwell Help, I was unable to find out how to view the AOP's already loaded on the system. Surprisingly, this question had not been asked before. I am hopeful that someone at Rockwell will investigate and provide a solution. Thanks again for your prompt reply. I delayed getting back to you as I wanted to hear from Rockwell first.

When you click "Add Module" on a backplane or network, a module selection dialog displays a comprehensive list of the Module Profiles on your computer. However, this dialog does not differentiate between modules installed simultaneously with the software and those installed at different times. Fortunately, you can filter by vendor to make it easier to locate the Ethernet switch and potentially the remote I/O module. Additionally, filtering by part number allows you to quickly identify if the desired AOPs are already installed. This makes it simple to find and manage the modules you need.

When selecting "Add Module" to a backplane or network, the module selection dialog displays a comprehensive list of Module Profiles installed on the computer. This list is dynamic and shows only the available modules based on the selected system architecture. For example, when adding a module to a ControlLogix I/O Configuration or chassis, only 1756 modules will be displayed. Similarly, adding a 1756-ENBT to the chassis will only show Ethernet-based AOP modules. To view currently installed RA Add On Profiles, navigate to the following directories based on your operating system: - OS x86: C:\Program Files\Rockwell Software\RSLogix 5000\Module Profiles - OS x64: C:\Program Files(x86)\Rockwell Software\RSLogix 5000\Module Profiles For Third Party Add On Profiles, browse to: - OS x86: C:\Program Files\RSLogix 5000 Module Profiles - OS x64: C:\Program Files(x86)\RSLogix 5000 Module Profiles Hopefully, this information helps users avoid building unsupported hardware configurations and streamline their module selection process.

Geospark mentioned: To find all currently installed RA Add On Profiles, navigate to the following directory on OS x86 - C:\Program Files\Rockwell Software\RSLogix 5000\Module Profiles. Thank you, George! I found the answer I was looking for here. It's important to note that you can check the Minimum Logix Version required in the XML files for each module, which is why I was searching for the folder.

Hey Cody, it's great to hear that you're diving into the AOP's in the RSLogix platform. As for the list of installed AOP's, you can actually navigate through this path: "Start>All Programs>Rockwell Software>RSLogix 5000>Module Profiles" on your PC. This should give you a decent idea of what AOP's are currently installed in your design environment. It's always a good plan to check out this list before you head to your plant. Keep up the good work!

Hey Cody, while there isn't an in-built feature in RsLinx or Studio 5000 that shows all the added AOP's, you can manually check the installed AOP's on your system. In the Windows Control Panel, go to 'Programs and Features’, and sort the list by Publisher. Rockwell AOP's will be listed as 'Rockwell Automation, Inc.'. This will provide a comprehensive list of the installed AOPs. Remember to punctually update and back-up these lists, especially before important installations or revisions in the field. Hope this helps!

Hi Cody, indeed, there isn't a direct and simple way to view a list of already added AOP's in either RsLinx or Studio 5000 as far as I know. But you can achieve it in a roundabout way. In Studio 5000, for instance, you can sort of see which AOPs are installed by trying to add a module into the I/O Configuration and seeing what's available in the dropdown options. If you have the AOP installed, the module should be listed there. Despite being not straightforward, it might help you prepare your AOP requirements better. Hope this helps!

Hey Cody, I've been in the same boat as you with Rockwell's software. I don't think there's a straightforward list of already installed AOP's in RsLinx or Studio 5000. However, you can usually check this indirectly by trying to add a new device in the I/O configuration tree. If the AOP for the device you're looking for is already installed, it will show up in the list of available modules. If it doesn't, well, you'll know that you'll need to go and install it before you get to the plant. It's not the most efficient process, I'll admit, but it's gotten me through a few pinch points in the past!

Hey Cody! In Studio 5000, you can actually view the installed Add-On Profiles (AOPs) by going to the “Add-On Instructions” section under the "Controller Organizer" tab. Just right-click on it and select "Add-On Profile," and you should see a list of profiles that have been added. This can really help streamline your prep work and save time before you're on-site. Also, make sure to check the AOP folder in RsLinx—you can browse the available profiles there too. Good luck with your project!
