Greetings, everyone! Currently, I am utilizing Factory Talk Se 8.1 in conjunction with a terminal server where approximately 55 clients connect remotely to run their factory talk client. My concern revolves around the diagnostic list located at the bottom of the Factory Talk clients, which we are utilizing for debugging purposes. There have been instances where we encountered a continuous loop of errors on a client without our knowledge. It wasn't until hours later that we discovered the issue, leading us to shut down the problematic client and address the issue. However, the diagnostic list becomes overwhelmed with these errors, causing the same loop to persist until it catches up, sometimes taking hours to do so. During this time, no new errors or information are displayed on the list until all the old errors have been processed. I am seeking a solution to purge this backlog of errors and eliminate them to prevent their recurrence. Despite consulting tech support, a viable solution remains elusive. Neither the "clear" nor "clear all" options on the diagnostic list effectively remove the backlog, as it continues to fill up after each attempt. I also tried clearing the diagnostic viewer without success. Has anyone encountered a similar issue and discovered a workaround for this situation? Any insights would be greatly appreciated.
NikkoSuave asked if there is a way to clear old errors from the diagnostic list in Factory Talk SE 8.1. The issue arises when multiple errors accumulate in the list, causing a loop of errors that need to be resolved. Even after clearing the diagnostic list, new errors continue to appear. One solution is to access the default FT Diagnostics log located in C:\windows\system32\WinEvt\Logs\FTDiag.Evtx using Windows Events View. By running Windows Component Services and navigating to Applications and Services Logs, users can select FactoryTalk Diagnostics and clear the log under Actions. This process will help prevent the continuous loop of errors in the diagnostic list.
Thank you KuulKuum for your response. I was previously unaware that the settings for the diagnostic list could be modified, in addition to the diagnostic viewer. Currently, the diagnostic list displays all errors or commands executed on the terminal server, regardless of the user. This means that if a tag is set on one client, it will show up on all other clients' diagnostic lists on that terminal server. Additionally, I want to mention that I have already attempted to clear the log using the steps you provided. However, the outcome is the same as using the clear all button on the diagnostic list or the clear button in the diagnostic viewer. While these actions delete all errors in the list, the backed-up errors continue to appear in the diagnostic list. This poses a challenge when trying to troubleshoot errors as new errors are added to the list quickly.
I successfully found the diagnostic logs in the default directory. Despite this, I was unable to locate any entries similar to the diagnostic viewer, including navigation or PLC tag set values.
Hi there! I've had a similar experience and found out, to my surprise, that the factory talk server cache was the culprit. Even if you clear the diagnostic list at the client's end, it's critical to clear logs at the server end as well. I advise you to try purging the cache on your main factory talk server and check if this resolves the issue. If this doesn't work, consider limiting diagnostic list press-time by setting up an automatic purge at regular intervals. However, be cautious while doing so, as you don't want to lose error logs that might be useful for debugging future issues. I'd also recommend setting up some kind of alert system or automatic reporting whenever the error count hits a certain threshold. It might save you a lot of trouble in the long run. Good luck!
