Hello everyone, I am currently in the process of creating a comprehensive excel recipe table to facilitate the transfer of updates via the Linx Gateway RTD/DDE function to my recipe UDT across multiple separate production lines. One issue I am facing is the tags within the UDT consistently displaying in alphabetical order, which does not align with the desired order based on my excel column layout. I have considered adding numbers to the beginning of the tags to match the excel column order, but this approach may cause confusion with the array element numbers in brackets. Are there any alternative solutions available, or how do you typically address this issue?
Which version are you currently utilizing? Feel free to adjust their positions as needed.
Mark Nightingale inquired about the version being used and mentioned the ability to adjust the positioning of rows as needed. In version 34, it was just discovered that right-clicking on the row header allows for inserting lines without them being sorted alphabetically. This revelation has led to the realization that several User Defined Types (UDTs) were inadvertently organized in order by the user's subconscious.
Hey there, your issue is a common one. I agree, adding numbers at the beginning of tags could potentially create confusion, and while it looks like you could just reorder the tags in your Excel file to match the alphabetical UDT's tags order, that's typically a hassle and kind of defeats the purpose of your organized setup. One way to approach this might be implementing a script to reorder your tags based on your Excel layout whenever you perform an update. Not as clean-cut as we'd probably like, but it may solve your issue. Alternatively, consider creating a mapping table - a separate body in your Excel or PLC that has two columns: one for your Excel column order and another for UDT tags. This way, you can easily cross-reference and maintain your desired order. Hope this helps!
