How to Convert PLC5 Logic from Logix500 to CCW: Troubleshooting Tips and Tools

Question:

Hello everyone, I'm seeking assistance with converting Logic from PLC5 (Logix500) to CCW (Connected Components Workbench). Whenever I attempt to use the CCW conversion tool, I encounter an error message indicating that certain data is missing and needs to be corrected before proceeding. The only potential error I can identify is that I saved the file as a .SLC, but despite researching online and following the provided instructions, I continue to face the same issue. I would greatly appreciate any tools, tips, or expert guidance that could help me avoid the hassle of rewriting everything from scratch. Thank you!

It seems that we need to clarify the requirements for your project. Are you looking to transform a program originally designed in RSLogix500 for a MicroLogix 1000 into a ControlLogix-compatible format for a Micro820 PLC? If that’s correct, it’s important to note that a direct conversion from an RSLogix500 program to Control and Commissioning Workspace (CCW) isn't feasible. Understanding the specific processors involved in your migration is crucial for success. By providing this information, you’ll likely receive more targeted assistance from the community here. Thank you!

I didn’t notice any mention from the original poster about whether it’s a MicroLogix 1000. However, if it is, you can check out this helpful link: https://theautomationblog.com/convert-micrologix-1000-programs-micro800/. Please note that I haven't personally tried this method. According to the information provided in the link, it appears to be specifically designed for converting MicroLogix 1000 programs only. Best of luck with your conversion!

I'm a bit perplexed because the original poster mentioned having a PLC5 program that's built using RSLogix 500. With the upcoming release of Connected Components Workbench (CCW) version 11.1, expected later this year, there will be a new conversion tool available to facilitate the migration from RSLogix 500 to CCW. - Alan

The latest release of CCW version 11 launched just last week. I haven't had the opportunity to explore the new RSLogix 500 converter yet, but I'm eager to dive in soon!

Absolutely! Although CCW 11 has only been available for a few weeks, exciting enhancements are on the way later this year, including the highly anticipated RSLogix500 conversion tool. Currently, the software supports only the MicroLogix PLCs, excluding the SLC series. As new features are developed, they will seamlessly integrate into CCW 11 without requiring a complete re-download. Additionally, please note that manuals are now offered as a separate download, making CCW 11 approximately 2GB in size. Stay tuned for updates!
