Seeking Assistance: Implementing Combo Box Functionality in Factory Talk ME V9 via Touch Input Hello everyone, I could use some guidance on how to create a Combo Box feature in Factory Talk ME V9 that utilizes touch input rather than navigation keys, akin to the functionality seen in Windows applications. The current Control List Selector, along with its navigation keys, occupies excessive screen space. Has anyone successfully achieved this before? I appreciate any insights you can share! Thank you in advance, Paul B.
I haven't had the chance to use version 9 yet, but I suspect it still lacks support for that feature. I share the sentiment that the control list leaves much to be desired. While it's possible to add a combo box using ActiveX, I don't think there's a way to dynamically populate it with data. If you're still early in this project and are open to exploring alternative platforms, it might be wise to consider other options. One potential solution is to show the value directly, and when you need to edit it, you could open a pop-up that contains the control list. After making your selection, the pop-up would close, streamlining the user experience.
Thank you! I am currently working with the Factory Talk ME platform and am looking to minimize unnecessary pop-up screens. It appears that I may need to use this feature. Does anyone know whether the Control List Selector is compatible with touch navigation, or will I need to rely on physical navigation keys? Thank you, Paul B.
To enable touch functionality, incorporate interlock push buttons above the text area. Ensure the buttons are transparent and match the button values with the Control List Selector, allowing for seamless integration. Assign the interlock button values to correspond with each state of the Selector, representing the relevant text. This approach replaces traditional dropdown menus and effectively removes the need for navigation buttons, enhancing user experience with a streamlined interface.
**User Inquiry on Control List Selector Functionality: Touch Support and Navigation Keys** PaulB asked: "Can anyone confirm if the Control List Selector is compatible with touch screens, or if navigation keys are necessary?" Here's what I understand: Navigation keys are indeed required for optimal usage. If screen space is a concern, you can adjust the Control List Selector to display only a single item at a time. In this case, you'll utilize two keys: the Up (or Down) key and the Enter key. Additionally, ensure that the 'Wrap' option in the Selector properties is enabled. This setup enhances usability and maintains a streamlined interface for effective navigation.
Thank you for your valuable suggestions, PaulB. Your input is greatly appreciated!
Hi Paul, I understand the challenge with space in Factory Talk ME. One approach you could try is to design a custom Combo Box using buttons for each option and a single display area that reflects the selected value. You can use event scripts to toggle visibility for the button set when the user touches the display area—this way, you utilize touch input while keeping your screen cleaner. Additionally, consider using pop-up menus that can appear based on touch events to minimize screen real estate usage. Hope that helps!
