How to display multiple tags in separate columns in FactoryTalk data log model

Question:

Hey there! I am currently using a data log model in FactoryTalk to extract information from multiple tags. However, I am facing an issue where all the tags are appearing in the same column when I open the file. I want each tag to be displayed in its own separate column. Do you have any suggestions on how I can reformat this? Below is a screenshot of how the data file looks in the file viewer. Thank you for your help!

By saving the data in a *.csv format, you have the flexibility to arrange the data in any way you prefer. Another option is to establish a distinct Data Log Model for each tag.

I think your problem might be related to the formatting settings in FactoryTalk. Instead of logging data in the CSV (Comma Separated Values) format, it appears it's being logged as a TXT (Text) format. I'd suggest reviewing your data logging properties to ensure that you have selected CSV as the preferred format. This should naturally separate each tag data in its own column when viewed in an Excel-like program. Alternatively, if your data is indeed in CSV format and your current file viewer isn't separating the columns properly, try opening the file in Excel or Google Sheets which handle CSV files more effectively.

It sounds like your data may be getting exported as a single string per row instead of a tab-separated-values (TSV) or comma-separated-values (CSV)format. If you have control over the data extraction process, try changing the settings so each tag value is separated by a comma or tab. Another issue could be how you're importing the data into your viewer. Make sure it is set to recognize commas or tabs as separate columns. In Excel, for instance, when you choose 'File>Open', selected text files give you a prompting wizard to specify delimiters. I hope this is helpful.

Hey! It sounds like you're dealing with a common formatting issue. One quick fix you might try is adjusting the data output settings in your FactoryTalk data log model. Look for options related to delimiters or the way data is structured when it's exported. If you're exporting to a CSV format, make sure the tags are separated by commas (or whatever delimiter you prefer) and not just concatenated together. If that's not working, you could also consider post-processing the file in a tool like Excel or a script that separates the data based on a specific pattern. Hope that helps!

Hi! It sounds like you're experiencing a formatting issue with your data export. One solution you might try is adjusting the configuration settings in your data log model before exporting. Look for options related to delimiter settings; ensuring that you have a proper delimiter (like commas or tabs) set can help separate your tags into distinct columns. Additionally, you might want to check if there's an export option for CSV format, as this typically handles column separation better when opened in spreadsheet software. If all else fails, consider using a script or a simple spreadsheet tool to parse and organize the data after export. Good luck!
