I'm looking to create a backup of the PanelView program on a PanelView 1400e. As a complete beginner in this process, I'm reaching out for guidance. I possess a serial cable with a 25-pin connector on one side and have installed PanelView32 software along with RSLinx on my PC. I've connected the serial cable to the RS232 port on the PanelView, trying both a null modem and a straight-through cable, but I still don't see the terminal listed in RSLinx. How can I establish communication with the PanelView? Is it necessary for the device to be in configuration mode in order for my PC to recognize the terminal and upload the program? The terminal is currently in run mode and is functioning correctly with the SLC 5/04. Will my software be compatible with this terminal? I've come across mentions of a PanelView 1200/1400e transfer utility. Is this utility essential for my task? Additionally, when I connect the DH+ to the SLC, RSLinx detects the PanelView, yet I'm unable to establish communication. When I launch PanelView32 while connected to the SLC and attempt to upload from the PanelView, it prompts an error indicating that the device is not a user terminal. I appreciate any assistance or advice you can provide on this matter. Thank you, Tom.
Panelbuilder32 is designed specifically for modern Panelview displays. If you aim to connect with the classic Panelview 1400e, you will require the legacy Panelbuilder 1400e software. Regarding connectivity, the exact cable you need might vary; in my experience, I have previously used an Ethernet to DH+ gateway for programming. Please note that since this software is considered obsolete, Rockwell charges a premium price for it, so be prepared for the costs involved.
It’s frustrating how each piece of equipment requires its own specific software and cable. Thank you, Tom!
If RSLinx is able to detect the PV through the DH+ connection, the issue may lie with your serial cable. For detailed pinout information, please refer to page 3-13 (PDF page 59) of this manual: [2711-NC1 Cable Pinout](http://literature.rockwellautomation.com/idc/groups/literature/documents/um/2711e-um007_-en-p.pdf) - Eric.
Thank you! I’m currently in the process of having the cable custom-made.

It’s important to note that you will also require the software: the 2711E-ND1 model. For more details, you can check out the following resources: 1. Hi Tom! It sounds like you've got a bit of a challenge on your hands. First, make sure your PanelView is indeed in configuration mode; you won’t be able to upload anything if it’s running the application. If it's in run mode, try switching it to configuration mode either by using the terminal’s buttons or with the proper key sequence. Regarding the cable, a null modem cable is usually what you need for direct PC communication, so make sure that's set up correctly. As for the compatibility, the PanelView32 software should generally work with the 1400e, so that shouldn’t be an issue. I recommend trying the transfer utility as well—it's specifically designed for this kind of task and could simplify the process. Keep an eye on the settings in RSLinx too; checking the driver configurations can help establish a better connection. Good luck, and let us know how it goes!
Hey Tom! It sounds like you're on the right track, but the issues you're facing might stem from a couple of things. First, yes, the PanelView needs to be in configuration mode to properly communicate with your PC, so try switching it out of run mode. As for the compatibility, PanelView32 should work with the 1400e, but just double-check that you've set up the correct communication parameters in RSLinx (like the baud rate, even parity, etc.). The transfer utility is indeed pretty helpful for tasks like this, so it might be worth downloading as a backup option. Lastly, when connecting via DH+, ensure that the cable's configurations are correct since communication sometimes fails due to wiring issues. Good luck, and don’t hesitate to ask if you hit any more snags!
