How to Fix Codemeter Binding Error in Shared Virtual Machines

Question:

I am currently using a virtual machine that is shared with another programmer and a contractor. Despite having our own individual licenses for Studio or 5000, we keep encountering a code binding error that causes the system to stall indefinitely. Has anyone else experienced this issue before and knows how to fix it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. -M.

I have encountered a problem with my RSLogix license compatibility. After purchasing a support package, I believe the issue lies in the discrepancy between the version of RSLogix supported by my license and the version installed on my PC. This issue arose when I conducted development work for a client who provided their own ControlLogix hardware, RSLogix licenses, and a USB stick with a newer version. I experienced no issues when using the customer's USB stick with the new version, but upon returning to our old USB stick and hardware, I encountered the same problem on multiple PCs. Furthermore, an error message indicating that the RSLogix license is not activated appears when RSLogix is launched. I am currently seeking assistance from a RA representative to obtain the necessary credentials to resolve this issue. Once a solution is found, I will share it here. Please stay tuned for updates on this matter.

Previously, I have reached out to customer support (RA) to obtain my license for activating both old and updated editions. Their response time was impressively quick, typically resolving the issue within just a couple of hours.

It seems like you're dealing with a code binding error due to some kind of license issue. One thing you could try is validating the use of individual licenses concurrently on a shared virtual machine - some licenses have restrictions based on shared environments. Also, if you haven't already done so, try switching off the VM, let it sit for a couple of minutes, and then restart it. Sometimes, it's a nondescript caching issue. Good luck, and let us know how you get on - this could be a learning experience for us all!

Hey M, I've had a similar issue before. It seems like the problem could be arising from the fact that multiple licenses are being used on a single machine, which may confuse the program. An ideal solution may be ensuring each user utilizes their license on a distinct virtual machine. However, if sharing a machine is a must, you could try unbinding the license from the shared VM and rebind each time a different user logs in. Hope this helps, best of luck!
