I have extensive experience in programming Studio 5000 PLCs and C-More HMIs. However, integrating a C-More HMI with a Compact Logix PLC is a new challenge for me. I am currently facing difficulties in exporting my PLC tags for import into my C-More HMI project. In Studio 5000 v33.11, I have only found options to export tags in .CSV or .TXT formats. After reaching out to Automation Direct Tech Support, I was advised to export the tags in an .L5X file format. Despite multiple attempts using the .CSV and .TXT files, I have been unable to successfully import the tags. I am seeking guidance on how to properly import my tags into my C-More CM-5 project. Thank you for your assistance.
Have you attempted to save your project in the L5X file format? To do so, navigate to File -> Save As and choose L5X (or L5K) from the file type dropdown menu. Alternatively, you can create a tag of each type in the C-More software, export it to understand the format, use Excel to match the Logix file format to the C-More file, and transfer the tags before re-importing. Keep in mind that you may need to make adjustments to the CSV file, as Excel tends to add or remove elements like single quotes that are necessary for C-More compatibility. In such cases, using find & replace in Notepad++ after making edits in Excel may be necessary.
Appreciate the help, Joseph_e2! Converting my project, particularly the primary program, to an L5X file solved the issue.
This integration might initially seem challenging, but it's definitely doable. For importing the tags, you need an intermediate software between Studio5000 and C-More - such as Rockwell's RSLogix 5000. It can export the tags into an L5K file, which C-More software should accept. Just ensure that in this process, all your data types in Studio5000 are supported in C-More. In case you stumble upon an unsupported data type, consider manually creating it in the C-More software. I hope this helps, and do let me know how it turns out!
Sure, I've encountered a similar situation before. In Studio 5000, you actually must export the tags in a ".L5K" format, not ".L5X". This is accomplished by going to File -> Save As -> L5K. Once you have it saved as an L5K, open the file in Notepad or another text editor and convert it to a CSV file by replacing each semicolon (;) with a comma (,). Now you should be able to import the tags into your C-More project. Remember to import PLC tags correctly in the C-More software, you may then need to setup you protocol accordingly. Hope this helps!
I understand your struggle, I've been there before! In Studio 5000, there's no direct way to export in .L5X format. What you can do instead is save the project as .L5K or archive the project as .ACP, then manually change the extension to .L5X. Now when you import the file into your C-More project, the tags should come in without a hitch. Remember to ensure your software versions between both the PLC and HMI are compatible to prevent further issues. Taking a step further, you could use an OPC server for real-time data exchange, though that's more complex. Hope this helps and let us know how you get on!
I totally understand the hurdle you're encountering. When using the Compact Logix PLC with the C-More HMI, the HMI software should theoretically be able to directly pull all tag names from the PLC program provided you have an Ethernet connection between the two. If that isn't working, you can try exporting them in .L5X format as advised by Automation Direct. In Studio 5000, look under Tools -> Export -> Logic and choose the .L5X format. This should include all your tags. Then, you can import them into your C-More project. Remember it's essential to configure your Ethernet connection and match the IP address ranges appropriately for seamless operation. If this doesn't work, there may be an issue either with the software versions or the communication settings.
