Hello everyone, I'm seeking advice on how to read data points from a Modbus TCP server into InTouch v11.1 without using DASMBTCP. Are there any simple alternatives available? Despite my best efforts, I have been unable to get DASMBTCP to work even after days of troubleshooting. I have also reached out to Wonderware tech support without success. Is OPC a viable and user-friendly option for me as a beginner? I would prefer not to add any additional hardware as it is a remote site. Would it be acceptable to hire a professional through this forum for assistance? Payment can be made in high-fives and/or dollars.
The control system of PLC is ControlLogix, but it lacks an EN2T Ethernet card, making it incompatible with AB's modbus read AOI sample code. Upgrading to an EN2T card is necessary to utilize this feature.
Could you provide us with further information on the functionality of DASMBTCP and any specific issues you may have encountered? I have personal experience with this technology and know it can be challenging to configure correctly. Could you also specify the hardware used in the modbus server you are attempting to connect with? This information will help us troubleshoot any potential issues effectively.
In the DASMBTCP 3.0 SP1 software, there have been challenges when reading data from an Eaton PXM-4000 Power Xpert power meter. The WW data quality status values fluctuate between 0, 4, and 27 during various attempts. Despite limited modbus experience, all syntax permutations have been exhausted in trying to retrieve data for the WW item name. One specific register, 4671, is of interest for reading purposes. After troubleshooting with tech support using the wwclient.exe utility, consistent results were obtained, indicating that the issue is not related to the WW tag database configuration. All DAS configuration settings align with the guidelines outlined in the DASMBTCP manual. This technical issue has proven to be quite perplexing and continues to be a challenge to resolve.
Mark_ is seeking advice on reading data using ModScan and ModbusPoll from the same PC. Payment is available in high-fives and/or dollars. Can you provide the ModScan configuration? There seems to be an issue with your registers, and it may be beneficial to consider using the ModbusBridge instead of ModbusPLC. Your support would be greatly appreciated. I captured a Modscan screenshot and experimented with ModbusBridge briefly. I am open to revisiting that. I am currently using educated guesses for the Item Name syntax, as it remains unclear to me even after reading the manual.
Hey there, it does sound like you're having quite a tough time with DASMBTCP. You're correct in thinking about OPC as an alternative. OPC UA could indeed be a user-friendly alternative to DASMBTCP for communicating with your Modbus TCP Server. InTouch supports OPC communications out of the box and you'll find it relatively easy to pick up the basics. As for hiring a professional, this forum may not be the best place to do that. You might want to consider platforms like Upwork or Freelancer, where you can pay professionals (yes, with actual dollars) to assist with such technicalities. Hope this helps!
Hello, I can certainly empathize with your frustration since these technical hurdles can be challenging. OPC could be an option for you, it's particularly good with interoperability between different hardware and systems, but it might not be the easiest for beginners. Hiring a professional to guide you through the process might be a good idea, especially if you're dealing with a remote site. However, before going down that route, have you considered using an InTouch native Modbus TCP object? I've found them easier to work with when DASMBTCP doesn't cooperate. Just ensure your device supports it before starting. High-fives/dollars accepted!
Hey there! Frustration with DASMBTCP is pretty common, you're not alone. I suggest you definitely consider OPC. It's quite user-friendly and should easily let you read the required data from a Modbus TCP server. There's a learning curve, but there are plenty of tutorials available online that should help you, including on YouTube. Also, there's no additional hardware required which should fit your requirements. As for hiring a professional, many forums discourage public soliciting, so it may be best to send a private message to someone you think might be of help. Best of luck!
Hey there! Yes, OPC can indeed be a good option for beginners like you. Wonderware's OPC client, known as "FSGateway", is fairly simple to use and could potentially work for you. However, remember that you'll still need a Modbus TCP OPC server running somewhere. Kepware makes a Modbus TCP OPC server which is quite intuitive to understand and implement, so you might want to check that out. About hiring a professional, I'd say, given the complexity of your situation, if you're unable to solve the issue yourself, getting professional assistance could be beneficial. Just make sure whoever you hire is familiar with InTouch and Modbus TCP to ensure they'll be able to help. Don't be discouraged, every professional was once a beginner. All the best!
Hey there! If DASMBTCP isn't working for you, using an OPC server could definitely be a more straightforward alternative, especially if you're just getting started. There are plenty of user-friendly OPC solutions out there, like Matrikon or Kepware, that can talk to Modbus TCP and integrate well with InTouch. They usually come with good documentation, too! Hiring a professional through this forum sounds like a solid idea, too—sometimes a fresh set of eyes can make all the difference. Best of luck!
Hey there! If you're considering alternatives to DASMBTCP, using an OPC server could definitely be a good route, especially since InTouch supports it pretty well. Many OPC servers are designed to be user-friendly, too, so as a beginner, you might find that they simplify your data acquisition process without needing extra hardware. Just make sure to pick an OPC server that's compatible with your Modbus TCP setup. And hiring a professional could be a smart move if you're feeling stuck; sometimes a fresh pair of eyes can solve issues quicker than troubleshooting on your own! Best of luck!
Hey there! I can understand your frustration with DASMBTCP; it can be tricky sometimes. If you want to avoid additional hardware, using an OPC server could definitely be a good route. There are user-friendly options like Matrikon or Kepware that can help bridge Modbus TCP to InTouch quite easily, even for beginners. And yes, hiring a professional from the forum could be a solid plan—sometimes, getting hands-on help can speed up the process and save you from the headaches. Good luck!
