How to secure FX3U PLC ladder from unauthorized access in GX Works2

Question:

Hello everyone, I'm having trouble with setting up a password, which has become quite challenging and odd. Despite successfully setting up the password, I was surprised when I tried to upload the ladder from the PLC to the PC and it worked without prompting for the password. Can anyone offer assistance with this issue? Thank you.

When you have the project open, it is automatically saved as downloaded. If you close the IDE (GXWorks) and reopen it, you should be prompted to enter the password. If not, the password may not have been set correctly. This ensures the security of your project and its data.

If you're looking to protect your PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) by limiting downloads and uploads, consider adding a user in the user management function to safeguard the project from unauthorized access. This step will allow you to control access to key functions and prevent data tampering.

When working on a project in GXWorks, the software remembers the password once it has been downloaded. However, if you close the IDE and reopen it, it should prompt you for the password again. Make sure the password has been properly set up before downloading the ladder program to the PLC. I experienced an issue where the import ladder checkbox was disabled when trying to read from the PLC online. This led me to believe that the project was being protected. Despite this, an error message indicated that the project was uncompiled. Clicking next eventually brought up the ladder program.

Hey, it sounds like your PLC isn't enforcing the password requirement when you're making the upload. You might want to double-check the settings as sometimes the PLC may be set to only require a password for certain operations or from specific devices. Also, ensure you have the latest firmware as outdated versions can sometimes have security issues. If all else fails, consider reaching out to the PLC manufacturer's customer support for further guidance.

Hi! It does sound like you're dealing with a confusing issue. While I'm no expert, it seems like it could be a session persistence problem with your PLC-PC connection. In other words, the system might still remember your password from the earlier interaction and doesn't prompt for it again within the same session. Try logging out completely or restart both devices and then try to upload the ladder once more. If it still doesn't prompt, you might want to check the settings of your PLC software or perhaps there's a bug that needs to be addressed by the manufacturer. Hope this helps a bit!
