Hello everyone, I am new to using factorytalk view SE and I am in the process of creating an HMI with an alarm and event summary feature. The alarm and event summary is displayed on a screen named "AlarmSummary." I am looking to set it up so that whenever a new alarm is activated, this screen automatically pops up over the current display and only goes away once the alarm is acknowledged. I have done some research online and found information about using VBA code, but I am not familiar with that. Is there an alternative method to achieve this? Thank you for your assistance!
Welcome to PLCTalk.net! Did you know that the Alarms page on PLCs is highly versatile and user-friendly? Have you explored its capabilities yet?
Welcome to PLCTalk.net! The built-in Alarms feature is incredibly versatile – have you taken advantage of its capabilities? What exactly do you mean by the built-in Alarms page? I was able to utilize the Alarms and Event summary tool on a display and create a separate screen, but I am curious about how to set it up to appear automatically whenever an alarm is triggered. Let's explore how to make the most out of this functionality together.
Apologies for any confusion between SE and ME. While I haven't worked on SE recently, I remember it having a dedicated Alarms page similar to ME. In my previous project, this page would appear as a popup whenever an alarm was triggered, with pre-made buttons for acknowledgment, shelving, and more. The triggers for alarms are typically set in the PLC using Alarm instructions that specify the bits or levels (digital or analog signals) to be triggered.
Hey there! It's great that you're trying out FactoryTalk View SE. To achieve automatic pop up of the "AlarmSummary" screen when a new alarm is registered, one way would be using the commands in HMI. It’s simpler compared to VBA and would serve your purpose effectively. You can use the "Display" command with its "Alarm Trigger" feature. Set the trigger to the alarm you're monitoring and the HMI will automatically pop up the alarm display when that alarm is activated. And once the alarm is acknowledged, you can utilize the "Close" or "Previous" command to remove the popup. However, familiarizing yourself with VBA could open up many more capabilities down the line, so it might be worth the effort to learn. Good luck with your project!
Welcome to the forum! If you're not comfortable with VBA code, you can use FactoryTalk's own features to achieve this. You can set up a display to change or an alarm banner to show when an alarm is activated. Go to "Display Settings" in your FT View Studio and choose the screen (in this case "AlarmSummary") to pop-up when a specific tag changes or when an alarm is triggered. Make sure that "on top" is selected so it will show over any current displays. You can also utilize the alarm and event setup to acknowledge the alarm, which should then close the popup. It may require a little tinkering, but it's generally easier than working with VBA if you're not familiar.
Welcome to the forum! You are definitely on the right track with the VBA method, but I understand it might be too complex if you're not familiar with Visual Basic. As an alternative, you might want to try scripting in FactoryTalk View itself. You can create a new event in the “Events” section of your application and set the condition as “AlarmActivated()”. Once this condition is met, you can configure it to switch to your "AlarmSummary" screen. It involves no extra coding and is pretty straightforward. Just don't forget to set another event to switch back to the previous screen once the alarm is acknowledged!
Welcome to the forum! It's great to hear about your project, and I can help shed some light on your issue. While VBA could be a solution, if you're not too familiar with it, you could use the "Global Connection" feature in FactoryTalk View SE instead. This feature lets you manage your display hierarchy so you can have your "AlarmSummary" screen pop up whenever an alarm is activated. Just make sure to set your alarm trigger in the global connection and acknowledge the alarm to make the screen go away. Remember to test it out several times to ensure it works as expected. Good luck!
Welcome to the FactoryTalk View SE community! For the auto-popup feature without using VBA, you can utilize the built-in features of FactoryTalk to create a pop-up behavior. Try setting the "Visible" property of the AlarmSummary screen to true based on the status of your alarm tags. You can also use the "Display" command in a logic condition to change the screen when an alarm is triggered. Make sure to monitor the acknowledgment state of the alarm, and when it's acknowledged, set the visibility to false, which should take care of your requirement. Good luck with your HMI project!
Welcome to the forum! You can definitely achieve this in FactoryTalk View SE without diving too deep into VBA. One method is to use the built-in alarm settings to set the "On Alarm" action for your displays. You can configure it to display the AlarmSummary screen automatically when an alarm triggers. Just go to the Alarm settings and set the “Action” to open the AlarmSummary page. This way, it will pop up but still only if the alarm is unacknowledged. I hope this helps you get started! If you have any more questions or need clarification, feel free to ask.
Welcome to the community! If you're looking for a way to pop up your "AlarmSummary" screen without diving into VBA, you might want to explore using the built-in event handling features in FactoryTalk View SE. You can set up your alarms to trigger a display event that automatically opens the summary screen when an alarm is activated. Just go into the alarm settings and look for options related to display events; it should allow you to set the AlarmSummary as the target screen when a new alarm occurs. This way, you can keep things simple without getting into scripting just yet!
