Hello everyone, I need to upload a program on an S71200 PLC in order to modify a hardware configuration setting, and then re-download the program with this change onto the device. The PLC is also responsible for controlling a Siemens IO device, with the connection details outlined in the network tab of the existing backup. My concern is whether making modifications only to the PLC configuration will impact the communication between the PLC and the IO device upon re-downloading. Should I also upload the IO device and set up the connection before re-downloading, or is the connection information already included in the upload process?
Uploading from the IO device may not be possible. It is important to note that in the S7-1200, you may not be able to configure devices that are not listed in TIA's hardware catalog. To remedy this, you can add the device to the hardware catalog by importing a GSDML into TIA. If the device is a Siemens product, it may already be in the catalog or can be added by updating it. What specific device are you working with and what version of TIA are you using? Despite these limitations, you can still proceed with the upload process to assess its functionality. Working offline is a safe option, and downloading is only possible after successful hardware compilation.
Thank you Jesper for your support! The IO device being used is an ET200SP IM 155-6PN ST, which is being controlled by the S71200 1214 it is linked to. I will be operating in TIA v15 for this setup.
According to DeltaOP, the IO device being used is the ET200SP IM 155-6PN ST, which is a common and reliable device found in hardware catalogs. Rest assured, there should be no issues with its performance.
Hey there! When you upload the program from the S71200 PLC, it typically includes all the configurations including those related to network connections like your IO device. So, if you're just altering a hardware configuration and not changing anything related to the network setup, you should be fine. But to be absolutely safe, it's a good idea to record down all the specific IO connection settings before you start, just in case you need to manually reconfigure something after downloading the program back onto the PLC.
It's great that you're being thorough about this! Generally, when you upload a project from the S71200, it should include the connection details for your IO devices, so those settings shouldn't change unless you modify them directly. However, it's always a good idea to double-check the network settings in the configuration before re-downloading, just to ensure everything lines up as expected. If you have made any hardware changes or settings adjustments on the IO device itself, you might want to upload those configurations too to avoid any potential communication issues. Better safe than sorry!

Answer: - Modifying the PLC configuration may impact communication with the IO device. It's advisable to upload the IO device settings and ensure the connection details are correctly configured to maintain communication.
Answer: - It's recommended to upload the IO device settings and verify the connection details along with modifying the PLC program. This ensures that the communication between the PLC and the IO device remains intact after re-downloading the program.
Answer: - The network tab of the existing backup should contain the connection details between the PLC and the IO device. However, it's good practice to double-check and confirm that the connection information is accurate before re-downloading the modified program.
