How to Upload Code from Telemecanique TSX17 PLC: Finding Compatible PL7 Software for DOS

Question:

Hello! I've been a devoted reader for a long time, and I'm excited to ask my very first question. I currently have a Telemecanique TSX17 PLC from which I need to upload the code. Unfortunately, the part number sticker has been lost, so all I have is the model information—the TSX17. My setup includes a laptop equipped with DOS and Windows 3.11, complete with the necessary serial port and floppy drive. My main challenge is locating software that is compatible with my vintage laptop and can successfully install and run on DOS. I would greatly appreciate any guidance in the right direction! Although I found some limited resources online, including a potential software link on the Schneider Electric website, I’m struggling to understand how to properly install the software. My plan is to first transfer the files to a modern laptop, save them onto a floppy disk, and then move them over to my older system. If anyone with experience working with these PLCs could provide some tips or advice, it would be immensely helpful. While I’m comfortable dealing with older systems like Square D or Texas, this Telemecanique has left me puzzled! Thank you in advance for your assistance! Best, Andy

Hello, thank you for your assistance! I was able to locate those links. However, I'm having trouble figuring out how to install the download from Telemecanique. I'm not sure if it's the DOS version or if it comes with a standalone operating system. Can you help me clarify this? Best, Andy.

User andy_1983 commented: "Thank you for providing those links! I've located them, but I'm having trouble with the installation of the Telemecanique download. I'm uncertain whether it’s the DOS version or if it requires its own operating system for installation. Upon further inspection of the Schneider link’s ZIP file, I discovered a password-protected file. The instructions outlined in Swedish state: 'Install on a computer with DOS 5.x - 6.22.' For installations on Windows 95 and Windows 98 systems, it's crucial to have knowledge of how to modify the config.sys and autoexec.bat files. A PC running DOS 5.x - 6.22 is necessary, and if you are installing on Windows 95 or Windows 98, adjustments to the config.sys and autoexec.bat files will be needed."

Within the ZIP file of Scheider Link, you'll find a password file that provides essential information. In Swedish, it prompts you with "Click to expand..." while the English version can be found towards the end of the document. It's crucial to adhere to the installation guidelines specified in the password file, as the sequence of installing the files is important. For your reference, I have also attached the PL7 software manual. Please consult Section 2 for detailed installation instructions.

Thank you for the helpful tips, everyone! I’ll attempt this again later today and will keep you updated on my progress. Cheers, Andy.
