How to Upload Code to BandR CP474 Without Source Code or PG2000 Software

Question:

Subject: Seeking Assistance with B&R CP474 Code Upload Hello everyone, I’m currently facing a challenge in my job related to uploading code from a B&R CP474. From my research on various forums, it seems that this process can be quite complicated. Unfortunately, I do not possess the source code or the PG2000 software necessary for this task. Is it possible to upload the code without these resources? I would greatly appreciate any guidance or insights you can provide. Thank you for taking the time to read my post! Best regards, Mike

In brief, it's unlikely that you'll be able to upload the program from a B&R PLC to your PC. While I haven't directly worked with pg2000, I've encountered several reports indicating that this functionality is not available. Although newer PLC models do support storing source code, this feature is not activated by default. To resolve your issue, I recommend reaching out to the programmer for a copy of the program you need. Additionally, you'll need to acquire the pg2000 software to facilitate this process.

Greetings! I’m a newcomer to B&R Automation, and I’m encountering a significant issue: the compilation time in Automation Studio seems excessively long. I'm currently using a trial version, and even the simplest program with just a single line of code takes an eternity to compile. However, when my project consists solely of a VC component, the configuration builds in just a few seconds. I’m puzzled about why I’m experiencing such prolonged build times for my other projects. Any guidance or tips to help me resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

It might be beneficial to check your Task Manager to see if there are any processes slowing down your PC during compilation. For context, I have a relatively large project that compiles in just under a minute using an Intel i5-4200M processor at 2.5GHz with 8GB of RAM.

I am using an Intel i7 processor equipped with 16GB of RAM. Currently, I have a simple, empty application with just the default visualization, but I encounter a significant issue during the compilation process. The build gets stuck at this point: Compiling C:/BrAutomation/AS43/AS/GnuInst/V4.1.2/i386-elf/include/bur/_bur_pvdef.st. When I attempt to build without any program object, the compilation completes in just a few seconds. However, as soon as I add a program object—even without any coding—the configuration build process becomes extremely sluggish. Recently, I acquired a Power Panel 65 and wanted to test its functionality. It seems to work well with a VC component, but the moment I include a Program object, the build configuration freezes. If needed, I'm happy to share my code or provide a screenshot for further assistance. Thank you so much for your valuable help!

I am currently utilizing the Evaluation license of AS 4.3.3 on a Windows 10 Home 64-bit system. I suspect that this might be related to the issue I'm experiencing.

Hey Mike, I totally understand the frustration when you don't have the source code or the PG2000 software! Unfortunately, without those tools, you're pretty limited in your options—most B&R platforms require them for tasks like code uploads due to their proprietary nature. I would recommend reaching out to your company's software admin or B&R support directly; they might have access to the necessary software or could offer alternative solutions. Good luck, and I hope you get it sorted out soon!
