How to Upload Programs to Simatic TI335 CPU: Essential Software and Cable Guide

Question:

Hello everyone, I’m looking for guidance on the specific software and cable needed to upload a program for a particular brand I’m not familiar with. My client has requested that I perform this upload purely for backup purposes. Any assistance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

While you await a response, consider reaching out to Automation Direct. They have acquired the entire line of TI/Koyo PLCs, offering a range of products and services to meet your automation needs.

JRW advises: While you wait for a response here, consider reaching out to Automation Direct. They have reportedly taken over the entire lineup of old TI/Koyo PLC models. I made a call, but unfortunately, the person who has the relevant information is currently out to lunch. Nevertheless, it’s a step in the right direction! Thank you!

In the past, when Texas Instruments (TI) offered this product, the programming software was a DOS-based application known as TISoft. After Siemens acquired TI's PLC product line, they continued to support TISoft for a period, though I can't recall if they decided to rebrand it. An older Automation Direct catalog indicates that their DirectSoft5 software was compatible with the 335-37 CPU. I'm uncertain if this backward compatibility was preserved in DirectSoft6. As suggested by JRW, the best resource for accurate and up-to-date information is Automation Direct. They are associated with Koyo, the original manufacturer of this product across all its versions.

In the beginning, that particular product required a data communications unit that connected to the CPU port and converted signals to SS232 or RS422. Siemens, however, offered a version that incorporated an RS232 or RS422 port directly, eliminating the need for an external data communications unit. Depending on the specific model you have, you may require the data communications unit, an RS232/RS422 adapter, and a 9-pin to 25-pin serial RS232 cable to establish a connection with your PC running the necessary software, along with a USB to serial adapter. It’s likely that you’ll need to extract the program from the device to upgrade it to a more modern format. Therefore, it could be beneficial to find a local professional who possesses the appropriate software, converters, and cables to assist you in extracting the program effectively.

The TI335 operates independently without the need for a Data Communications Unit (DCU). It connects via an RS232 DB9 female to RJ11 male cable, with the part number D3-DSCBL-1. For automation solutions, the corresponding CPU from AutomationDirect is the D3-340. To program the TI335, you will need DirectSoft software, as the previous version was TISOFT 305. For more information and software downloads, visit the AutomationDirect support page: [DirectSoft Software](https://support.automationdirect.com/products/directsoft.html) and [AutomationDirect Programming Software](https://www.automationdirect.com/ad...(Small_Modular_PLC)/Programming_SW_-a-_Cables).

Hey there! It would help to know the specific brand and model you're working with, as different manufacturers often have proprietary software and cables. Generally, you might want to check the manufacturer's website for any support documents or tools they provide for program uploads. If it's a common brand, there might also be forums or user groups that can give you step-by-step instructions. Good luck with the backup!
