Integrating Omron NX-EIC202 Ethernet/IP Adapter with Allen-Bradley Logix PLC: Troubleshooting Steps

Question:

Hello, I am looking to integrate an Ethernet/IP adapter, specifically the Omron NX-EIC202, into a Logix system. The Logix PLC in use is a 1756-L61 (Revision 15.4) paired with a 1756-ENBT/A (Revision 3/1). I am currently using RSLogix 5000 Standard Edition, version 15.1. However, when I attempt to add the module, I can only see Allen-Bradley modules available for selection. I have already installed the EDS file using the RSLinx Hardware Installation Tool. Is it necessary to have RSNetWorx for Ethernet/IP, or could there be another step I am overlooking?

I have configured the Omron Ethernet adapter only a single time, and I can't recall the specific model I used. However, if my memory serves me right, the setup involved configuring it as a generic Ethernet module and utilizing SINTs. It's essential to calculate the number of SINTs required based on your input and output specifications. I believe there is a detailed guide available on Omron's official website that can assist you. Additionally, your vendor should be able to provide support and answer any questions you may have regarding the setup process.

Have you encountered this issue before? If you're still facing difficulties, configuring your device as a generic Ethernet module is likely your best option. For more detailed information, visit the following link: https://www.myomron.com/index.php?action=kb&article=1671.

If you’re still facing difficulties, configuring your device as a generic Ethernet module may be the most effective solution. Click to expand for further details. If you follow these steps, it’s likely that the Add-On Profile (AOP) for the Omron module is missing. Refer to step 2 to see how the NX model appears in the list. The AOP is an installable file that integrates the specific module into the Logix database, allowing you to select it from the list and add it to your I/O tree.

The Version 15 Studio and firmware are approximately a decade old. It's important to note that they do not support EDS-derived module profiles and may lack compatibility with contemporary Add-On Profiles. If you’re looking for guidance on utilizing a Generic Ethernet Module object, I highly recommend adopting that strategy for better results.

Thank you for your responses. I do have the quick start guide. In the short term, I plan to utilize the generic module. However, in the long run, I recommend that the site consider upgrading both RSLogix and the firmware for optimal performance.
