Hello everyone, PVP 7 is experiencing some performance issues after running smoothly since its last modification in 2023. Occasionally, the system slows down or becomes unresponsive. When functioning properly, all buttons respond promptly and screens switch quickly. However, during the times when it is not working correctly, the mouse cursor may not align perfectly with finger presses, causing buttons to not respond. A unique feature of this system is that the clock on the screens never misses a beat. Occasionally, a reboot can resolve the issue. Interestingly, Terminal settings pages show perfect response times. Monitoring memory usage reveals MERuntime RAM at 15936KB, Total RAM usage at 63800KB, and Available RAM at 375864KB. Please share any suggestions or advice if you have encountered similar issues.
Are there any visual abnormalities in the video, such as color bands or dead pixels? If the buttons are unresponsive, do they start working after a few minutes or do you need to reboot the system? I experienced a similar issue with a 2021 PV+7 model, where video artifacts would appear and the terminal would freeze until a power cycle was done. However, I did not conduct further diagnostics at that time. Interestingly, the same application ran smoothly on a new PV+ model. Make sure to inspect the FactoryTalk View Diagnostics by creating a display with only the FT Diagnostics window to check for any communication syntax or connection issues. It is worth noting that despite the system clock functioning properly, indicating the operating system is functioning, the problem may lie within a component of FTView.
Hello Ken, appreciate the prompt response. The display is free of visual artifacts and dead pixels. However, there seems to be an issue with unresponsive buttons. A power cycle is necessary to restore functionality, but sometimes the response is slow even after that. I have not been able to observe if updates are still occurring on pages showing live values from the PLC. Tomorrow, I will attempt to use a different laptop to access the FT Diagnostics window and monitor the situation for any anomalies.
Are you using specialized VBA scripts, ActiveX controls, or animations? These could potentially be causing a memory leak issue.
When asked for VBA scripts, ActiveX controls, or animations, lmscar12 suspected a memory leak. However, there are no scripts or activeX controls involved. The program includes simple color animations based on states with no fancy gradients. Despite remaining unchanged for nearly two years, the issue of memory leakage has only recently surfaced within the last three weeks, according to the operators.
Hey there, I had a similar issue with my system awhile back. It turned out that the system was trying to process too many tasks in parallel, which was likely causing an overload and thus hampering the performance. You could look at task prioritization as a potential solution to your problem. Additionally, ensure your graphics driver is up to date as this could potentially cause issues with cursor alignment. For the memory, you seem to have plenty of available RAM, but keep an eye on your RAM usage when the problem occurs. It's possible there may be a spike in usage that's causing the slowdown. Hope this helps!
I've encountered a similar issue in the past with PVP 6. In my case, the issue was related to a memory leak. Despite there being ample available RAM, certain intensive processes were using more and more memory overtime. The memory leak issue was stealthy because it didn't affect the overall performance immediately, but caused incremental degradation over time. Even if it doesn't seem like your system is maxing out on RAM, I would recommend double-checking your programs and apps to see if they're properly freeing up used memory. This could be why a reboot temporarily resolves the issue, as it clears the memory. The mouse cursor misalignment issue you mentioned might also be due to a graphics driver problem, so consider updating those as well.
I've encountered something similar in the past. It seems like you might be having a memory leak issue that's mostly affecting your graphical user interface (GUI). Despite having a lot of available RAM, there could be one or more components hogging memory over time, causing the system to slow down and become unresponsive. This would explain why a reboot temporarily fixes the problem as it resets the memory allocation. I would suggest inspecting the memory usage of individual processes or components within your PVP 7 over a prolonged period to pinpoint the source of the problem. Additionally, upgrading to optimized or newer versions of GUI and other relevant libraries might help. Remember to keep your drivers and firmware up-to-date as well.
