Congratulations on effectively incorporating a CMMS system for ISO/Ws documentation! Here are some key points to consider: 1) What criteria did you use to determine the expertise of personnel assigned to specific equipment? 2) How did you designate your ISO essential equipment? 3) How did you choose critical spare parts? 4) Are critical spare parts linked to ISO critical equipment? 5) What methods do you use to recognize ISO-compliant documents? I apologize for the delay in my response as I have been recovering from back surgery and working from home. Each department at our facility has two classifications of maintenance employees: Maintenance Technician Mechanical (MTM) and Maintenance Technician Electrical (MTE). All employees in the department receive on-the-job training (OJT) from senior employees and undergo refresher courses on specific equipment at scheduled intervals. This training is documented in the Human Resource file through the Timecard system using "Special" or Training numbers. Equipment at our facility is considered ISO-Critical if it directly impacts the production process. Spare parts for ISO-Critical equipment are considered critical spares, as are parts with a lead time longer than the repair time. We keep long lead time spares based on reliability history and have agreements with key suppliers to ensure timely delivery. Critical spares are not limited to ISO-Critical equipment in our system. For instance, a hydraulic pump for a non-ISO Critical piece of equipment like a Slab Hauler could still halt production if it fails. To prevent downtime, we keep enough spare parts on hand or have just-in-time agreements with suppliers. Our ISO documents are managed through our Quality Document Management System (QDMS) and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). The CMMS allows for easy retrieval of ISO procedures by type (ISO, Lock-Out, Gas Committee) for the entire plant or specific departments. Additionally, ISO documents in the CMMS can be attached to work orders or PM procedures, providing documentation of completed work. I appreciate your questions and hope these responses have been helpful to you. Regards, Ed Johnson CMMS Manager, WCI Steel, Inc. Phone: (330) 841-8348
Thank you for providing thorough and high-quality answers.
Great questions to consider! For our organization, we relied heavily on the experience and knowledge level of our personnel when designating responsibilities for specific equipment in the CMMS system. For ISO essential equipment, we referred to our ISO guidelines and worked collaboratively with our entire team to finalise our list. As for spare parts, their criticality was assessed based on the frequency of replacement, cost of the part, and the downtime caused if the part is not available. Yes, they are linked directly to ISO critical equipment in our system. For recognizing ISO-compliant documents, a majority of our documents come with certification labels or marks that are recognized internationally so we reference those. Thanks for the link, always looking to learn more about CMMS.
Great topic! Incorporating a CMMS system was quite an undertaking, but we found it to be beneficial in simplifying ISO/WS documentation. For the assignment of personnel expertise to equipment, we primarily used factors such as experience, training, and their specific skills set. Our ISO essential equipment was designated based on the risks associated with their failure, their impact on safety, and their role in critical processes. As for choosing critical spare parts, we took into consideration the potential down-time they might save in case of equipment failure. These parts are indeed linked to ISO critical equipment to ensure continuity and efficiency in our operations. Lastly, recognizing ISO-compliant documents has been mostly through the prevalence of standardized procedures and formats, clear and concise language, as well as the existence and use of management signatures and process validations. Thank you for the informative link, I'll be sure to check it out to learn more.
Great questions! Our team designated ISO essential equipment based on regulatory needs and its implications on our end products' quality. We chose critical spare parts based on their frequency of usage and the impact on production if they fail. Yes, our spare parts inventory links directly to the assigned ISO critical equipment. We employ a vetting process when assigning personnel to equipment, considering their qualifications, experiences, and certifications. For ISO-compliant document recognition, we use a color-coding and indexing system specific to each document type. And thanks for the link to CMMS City! It's a helpful resource.
