Plant Maintenance Information System (PMIS) in SAP is crucial for generating Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Aside from the usual analyses, what custom analyses are commonly utilized in SAP PM? Let us know your thoughts.

Hemant, have you utilized your SAP PMIS system to monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for aircrafts? Regards.

Hello Josh, we utilized the 46C version of R/3 and made significant enhancements with PMIS to generate reliable reporting at various levels such as Part number, Equipment, Aircraft/Engine, and system. Although it required considerable effort, the end result is quite refined. Our main challenge was accessing historical data in PMIS for accurate reporting. It's worth noting that there have been substantial advancements in PM analytics using data warehouse (BW), with several standard reports available alongside Analytics. If you're considering implementing PMIS, be sure to explore the standard Queries in BW.

Ensuring proper data integrity is crucial for conducting meaningful analysis, making it the primary criterion. While I have some experience with Business Warehouse (BW), I believe that it is more beneficial to fully utilize the Project Management Information System (PMIS) before jumping straight into BW. This is because the effectiveness of BW is dependent on the quality of data and the proper setup, therefore it is essential to have a clear understanding of the key performance indicators (KPIs) to be tracked in BW from the outset. Determining these KPIs requires a deep understanding of the subject matter. Any KPIs that cannot be derived from standard or user-defined analyses in PMIS should then be sourced from SAP BW. BW is particularly suitable for comprehensive organizational balanced scorecards as it can analyze data from various departments such as Production, Accounting, HR, as well as external inputs like Health, Safety, and Environment.

Is anyone able to provide an overview of the database structure of SAP PM for our upcoming asset data collection project? We are in the process of preparing for the implementation of SAP PM and would greatly appreciate any insights on key tables and fields for our initial data loading. Thank you and Wishing you all a Happy Holidays!

Absolutely, the standard analyses within SAP PMIS have been instrumental in generating our maintenance KPIs. We've noticed significant improvements since we started using it, as it reduces manual efforts and possible human error. In terms of tailored or user-defined analyses, we have indeed ventured into it to some extent. We have a few custom reports in place to accurately measure specifics that are unique to our environment and industry. While it required a bit more effort to set up, these tailored analyses are really paying off in terms of efficiency and performance metrics.

We've found SAP PMIS quite effective for automating essential maintenance KPIs, especially when it comes to tracking equipment downtime and preventative maintenance. We haven't done much custom analysis so far, but we're exploring the possibility of defining a few unique ones specific to our operations, mainly to facilitate the realtime tracking of equipment efficiency. It's been an interesting journey, but I must say, having the right training in place for our staff has been fundamental to making the most of this tool.
