Hello everyone, I’m currently working with an L33ER integrated with an Oil Battery at a specific location. One of the Ethernet ports is designated for HMI and programming connections, while the other is utilized for remote I/O. Initially, the communication between the Battery and Ignition SCADA was planned to be via Wireless Ethernet. However, due to the need for a repeater, they opted for a serial connection using an MDS SD4 radio. Although this radio has Ethernet capabilities, its bandwidth is limited, making setup and testing a challenge. As an alternative, I can leverage the Red Lion HMI to implement Modbus serial communication, but using native tags would be ideal. On the SCADA side, we’re converting the serial communication back to Ethernet using a SCADALINK IP100, which supports the DF1 protocol. I’m curious about the best approach to reverse the process back to serial. I’ve previously utilized the DIGIONE IAP for converting serial to Ethernet, as suggested here: http://www.plctalk.net/qanda/showthread.php?t=78136, but I’m seeking guidance on how to apply this in reverse. At the Ignition SCADA side, I have AutoSol set up for DF1 polling, and I’m successfully running both DF1 and Modbus over this existing radio network at another site with a 5/03 and a Scadapack32. What are your insights on this setup?
I have utilized the Antaira STE-601C in both configurations for printing purposes. This device is effective for converting serial to Ethernet, enabling seamless printing to LaserJet printers from SLC Basic cards. Conversely, it also supports Ethernet to serial conversion, which is beneficial when connecting L30, L33, or L81 processors to serial kiosk printers. These reliable device servers are not only robust but also feature an intuitive web-based configuration interface, making setup straightforward and hassle-free.
Does everyone believe I'm insane?

Humorous Update: I decided to utilize the Red Lion Graphite screen for Modbus integration with the PLC points. Next, I'm exploring various options for remote programming and support solutions for the site.
