Hello! I'm curious about the differences between RSView 32 and FactoryTalk View. I understand that PanelView Plus features integrated FactoryTalk View, which I assume is a type of Human-Machine Interface (HMI) software. On the other hand, I believe RSView 32 functions as SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) software. Can RSView 32 be compared to other SCADA solutions like Wonderware or Intellution? Thank you!

Hello everyone! I'm currently diving into Rockwell Automation products and encountering challenges in differentiating between RSView32, RSView ME, and RSView SE. Could anyone please highlight the key differences among these software tools? I also attempted to access Knowledgebase article 34805 for more information, but I couldn't get through as I don't have a Rockwell product account. I appreciate any assistance you can provide! Thank you!
FactoryTalk View is available in two versions: the Site Edition (SE) and the Machine Edition (ME). **FactoryTalk View SE** is a robust Human-Machine Interface (HMI) system designed for installation on a PC or server. It can function as a standalone solution or be distributed across multiple PCs, utilizing either thick clients or thin clients via terminal services. This system is often compared to Wonderware for its capabilities. **FactoryTalk View ME**, on the other hand, is tailored specifically for the PanelView Plus. Additionally, there is software available that enables emulation of the PanelView Plus on a PC, allowing users to run applications originally developed for the PanelView Plus environment on a standard computer. Both versions utilize similar development tools, which means users can leverage **FactoryTalk View Studio** to create projects for either SE or ME seamlessly. It's worth noting that RSView32, the predecessor of FactoryTalk View SE, while still in use, is less powerful and not recommended for new applications. This overview highlights the key features and differences between FactoryTalk View SE and ME, as well as their development environment, catering to users seeking advanced HMI solutions.
I share Pauly's views on RSView32, which I have frequently utilized based on customer requests. However, I must say that FactoryTalk SE is even more problematic. Imagine taking all the quirks and bugs found in RSView32 and turning them into a distributed application, complete with additional layers of complexity and issues—that's what you get with FactoryTalk SE.
The most recent update of SE has proven to be pretty solid overall. My only complaint is that the Studio occasionally freezes. However, I definitely prefer using SE over version 32 any day.
Hey there! You’re right that RSView 32 primarily serves as SCADA software, targeting more extensive monitoring and control functionalities than what you'd typically find in HMI systems like FactoryTalk View, which is more focused on local interfaces. When comparing RSView 32 to other SCADA solutions like Wonderware or Intellution, you'll find that while they all offer robust functionalities, the choice often comes down to specific use cases, ease of integration, and the existing infrastructure. Wonderware tends to shine in complex project environments, while RSView has strong integration with Rockwell Automation's ecosystem, making it advantageous if you're already using their hardware. Ultimately, it boils down to the particular needs of your operation!
