Setting up and Downloading Projects on Schneider HMISTU655 Touch Panel

Question:

I am assisting our industrial technology instructor in setting up and downloading a project to a Schneider HMISTU655 touch panel. When the panel is powered on, it boots up and shows IP address information. To change the network settings, you can press the option in the upper right corner of the panel. The instructor has installed Vijeo Designer software (version 6.?) on his laptop. Are there any special USB cables required to download the project from the laptop to the panel? Despite attempting to save the project on a USB flash drive for transfer, the panel continues to boot to the IP address information screen. We have also tried accessing the SETTINGS menu by pressing the top left corner within 10 seconds of booting up, but have not been successful. Could there be a step of downloading settings to the panel using the Vijeo software (as mentioned in the user guide on page 80) before being able to access the SETTINGS menu and download from the USB flash drive? As there is no network connectivity in the room, I have not yet attempted to download the project via Ethernet. To connect, I am considering using a cross-over cable or a mini-switch. Please advise if additional steps are required. Thank you for your patience with my lack of familiarity with this panel.

Welcome to the forum! You don't need a special cable, but it's important to use a good quality cable that is screened and follows the USB 2.0 specifications. Next, download the project to the panel using Vijeo. You will then see the boot firmware version of the panel displayed. If the version is lower than your Vijeo version, you should be able to download the project. However, downgrading the panel version can be challenging at times. For USB flash disks, ensure that it is in the FAT32 format. In the past, it needed to be under 2GB in size, but this is no longer the case with newer panels. Only load the Vijeo project created by the designer onto the flash drive. When connecting the USB flash drive, the panel should recognize it. Thank you for your response. I successfully transferred a "blank" project (a new project with no added elements) to the HMI using a USB flash drive. However, upon powering on the HMI, it displays "Booting..." followed by "OS is not found," and then shows "Setup" in the center of the screen. In the "blank" project, I configured the To Configuration to be at the Top Left. Despite attempting to download a different project onto the USB flash drive and inserting it into the HMI, no changes occurred. What should I do next to troubleshoot this issue as a beginner in HMI programming? Thank you.

It is important to use a mini USB 5 pin rather than a 4 pin connector. Once the target is selected, navigate to the property window and choose the option to download to a USB device. If you are using a regular USB to USB connection, you will require a special cable. The HMI device has 2 USB ports for connectivity. To connect via Ethernet, configure the IP and subnet settings in the screen configuration menu and click ok. After that, restart the device. You should be able to download using any patch cable. Ensure that your PC's IP address is within the same range as the screen for successful connection.

I am experiencing difficulties in establishing communication with the HMI. The current issue is that the HMI does not recognize the USB flash drive. I had planned to use a cross-over Ethernet cable for connection, but I am unable to configure the IP address on the HMI. Upon powering on the HMI, it displays the following messages: 1) "booting....." (referencing booting.png), 2) "OS not found" (referencing os.png), 3) "setup" (referencing setup.png). Attempts to access the Settings option by touching the top left corner or two corners have been unsuccessful. Any alternative advice or suggestions are appreciated.

If your USB flash drive isn't working properly, it may not have been successful. Please reach out to Schneider for assistance with resolving any issues.

Hello! It sounds like you're having a multi-layered issue with the HMISTU655 panel. First off, regarding your question about special USB cables – typically a standard A-to-B USB cable works perfectly fine to connect your laptop and the panel. However, the crucial aspect is to ensure your laptop's Vijeo Designer software can communicate with the panel. Before you attempt to transfer the project, use Vijeo Designer's Project settings to ensure that it recognizes the panel. Once it's accurately associated, your download issues may resolve. If not, then moving onto the Ethernet solution might be the way to go. With no network, using a cross-over cable is a good idea. Just ensure that your laptop's network settings and the panel's are in the same subnet to allow them to communicate successfully. Also, turning off the firewall on the laptop can help avoid potential network hindrances. Don't worry, we all start somewhere! Keep going, you're doing great.

It sounds like you're on the right track, but definitely check if you’re using the correct USB cable for your connections; Schneider typically requires a specific USB cable for programming. Additionally, downloading the settings via Vijeo Designer first is indeed a crucial step, as it configures the panel to recognize any project you want to upload later, whether through Ethernet or USB. If the SETTINGS menu isn't accessible after the initial steps, it might be worth exploring any firmware updates for the panel, as sometimes those can affect connectivity and function. Given the network constraints, using a cross-over cable is a solid option, just ensure the laptop and panel are set to compatible IP ranges. Good luck, and it’s always great to see someone diving into these tech challenges!
