According to mk42, the S7-microwin software is designed for the standard S7-200 PLC. The S7-200 CN model is exclusive to China and Asia due to pricing strategies. Siemens tends to overlook this model outside of the region. To upgrade to TIA for 1200/1500 PLCs, it is advisable to consult with Siemens or a local distributor. It is important to note that the compatibility may require the latest version of MicroWin and the Chinese character set installed on Windows. This language barrier might explain why this specific model is not as widely recognized globally.
MK42 mentioned that S7-microwin is specifically designed for the standard S7-200 PLC. The S7-200 CN model is exclusive to China and Asia due to pricing considerations. Siemens tends to overlook this model in other parts of the world. However, if you search diligently (perhaps with the help of Google), you may find it available for purchase in Asia or India. It's important to note that despite being region-specific, China exports machinery globally. Additionally, a Muti Master cable is necessary for connectivity as the standard PPI cable may not be compatible. We offer these cables for sale. Similarly, specialized HMIs are required for programming and cannot be uploaded from the PLC.

In a forum discussion, user geniusintraining mentioned that PLCs ending in CN are referred to as "Smart PLCs" and are compatible only with Smart software. Despite being primarily sold in Asia and India, with some effort and the help of search engines like Google, these PLCs can be found worldwide. When using Chinese-made machines outside of those regions, a Muti Master cable is essential as the standard PPI cable will not suffice. Additionally, certain HMIs require a specific program that cannot be uploaded. It's important to note the distinction between the S7200 Smart and the S7200 CN models, as they are not interchangeable. The S7200 Smart model is similar in functionality to the S71200.
According to JRW, there are two variations of the S7200 PLC - the S7200 Smart and the S7200 CN. These models have distinct differences, with the S7200 Smart being more similar to the S71200 PLC. It is possible that Siemens has limited compatibility with the Smart model, while with the CN model, there are language and character set considerations involved. This observation definitely resonates with my experience.
Comparison: S7200 Smart vs. S7200 CN - Which One is Better?
According to JRW, there are two versions of the S7200 PLC: the S7200 Smart and the S7200 CN. The 200 CN model was discontinued in 2017, while the Smart series, described as "budget-friendly," is still available. The software for the Smart PLCs can easily be found through a quick search on Google.

Have you come across an s7200 Ethernet to PPI programming cable that supports PPI multi master mode? While I know you offer the USB version, I'm interested in finding an Ethernet option as well.
Discover the versatile ACCON NetLink PRO compact adapter, a top-selling communication tool that supports PPI over Ethernet. This handy device serves as a programming and communication adapter between your PC and S7 controllers, offering connectivity options via MPI, Profibus, and PPI to seamlessly link to your PLC system. Visit www.deltalogic.de for more information on this compact all-rounder, and reach out to inquire about its compatibility with multi-master mode.
JRW inquired whether anyone still encounters or supports May 200s. He noted a decrease in sightings of these devices, but mentioned receiving one overnight (model 224) that requires programming before being returned.

JesperMP mentioned a versatile adapter that enables PPI over Ethernet communication. The compact Allrounder, our top-selling communication adapter, serves as a convenient programming interface between a PC and S7 controllers. In addition to MPI, Profibus, and PPI connectivity options, the ACCON NetLink PRO compact can be seamlessly integrated with the PLC. For more information on multi-master mode compatibility, we recommend reaching out to the manufacturer directly at www.deltalogic.de. It appears that this adapter is identical to the one offered by Helmholz, which has been reliable for over a decade. If you are considering the NETLink® adapter, rest assured that it has a proven track record of performance.
I recently tested the IBH Link S7++, which effectively enables DP-only S7-300s to connect to Ethernet for PC and HMI connectivity. While its reliability impressed me, configuring it initially, particularly within the PG/PC interface, posed some challenges. However, once properly set up, it proved to be user-friendly. In terms of multi-master functionality, more testing may be needed.

bkottaras mentioned that the adapter being discussed may be the same as the one from Helmholz. Having used a similar device for over a decade without any issues, they are unsure about its multi master support. When it comes to the Helmholz adapter, the question arises if it requires a 24VDC external supply or if it is only necessary based on what is being connected. There is the choice to connect directly to MPI or DP, which poses no problem. This feature is available for those who need it.
bkottaras mentioned that TIA 2x is on the horizon. It seems like they aim for an annual release, so it's always just around the corner. Despite some initial growing pains, the release has been consistent every fall for the past few years. There was a slight hiccup with the v15.1 release and a delay at the start of the pandemic.
According to mk42, new TIA Portal versions are typically released annually, making a new release a constant anticipation. Despite some initial challenges, the pattern has been consistent with a fall release each year in recent times, with exceptions like the unconventional v15.1 and a delayed release during the initial stage of the Covid-19 pandemic. It's worth noting that TIA Portal v11 was released in 2011, indicating a gap in release numbers.
Lare mentioned that TIA Portal V11 was released in 2011, so the release numbers have fallen behind. They experienced a rough start but are now working on catching up. Personally, I prefer annual updates rather than rushing to catch up with release cycles. Click to expand to learn more about TIA Portal V11.
mk42 mentioned that they had a rough start with the software. They prefer having annual releases, as it is easier to remember than manufacturer-specified version numbers. They are still using v15 and 15.1 occasionally. It can be challenging to keep up with different versions of TIA software from Siemens, requiring multiple installations on the computer.
mk42 commented that the software updates began with some challenges, expressing a preference for annual releases rather than rushed updates. I am in complete agreement with the idea of one release per year. Running versions 17, 18, and 19 on a virtual machine has been a difficult experience, despite using powerful hardware such as the Lenovo P17gen2. I plan to uninstall version 17 in order to install version 20, potentially creating a new virtual machine for this purpose. Personally, I found V13 SP1 to be the most favorable release due to its stability, compact size, and speedy performance while using Scout and Step 7 on the same virtual machine.
