Struggling to Convert PV550 File: Not a PanelView32 File Error Message and Low Disk Space Reminder.

Question:

Hello, I understand that this issue has been discussed multiple times before, but it is still recurring. I am in need of upgrading a significantly outdated PV550 before it becomes completely unusable. Each time I try to upload a file from the HMI and open it in PB32, I receive the error message "Unable to load file. Not a panelview32 file or disk space is low." I have exhausted all possible configurations with the hardware and software available to me, including clean installs of Win95 with PB2.7, as well as Win98, Win2K, and XP. Unfortunately, the error persists when attempting to convert the file to either .pba or a newer FTView version. I have tried versions ranging from PB2.7 to PB32 3.83.01 without success. Are there any workarounds for this issue, or is anyone willing to assist me in converting the file to .pba or .mer? Thank you in advance for your help. Best regards, Ram.

It has been a while since I last used Panelbuilder32 on standard panelviews. If the application was too large to fit in the memory, there was an option to remove the application edit information. This significantly decreased the memory requirements while still allowing the application to be downloaded to the panelview. However, this means that the application can no longer be uploaded and edited. This may be the issue you are currently facing. - Steve Improved and SEO-friendly: It has been some time since I utilized Panelbuilder32 on standard panelviews, where there was a feature to reduce memory usage by removing application edit information for large applications. Hi Ram, it definitely sounds like you've put a lot of work into trying to solve this issue. One possibility could be corruption in the file you're trying to convert. If that's the case, then no PB version would be successful. Maybe try to upload the file again from the PV550 unit if that's a possibility. If not, I've also read about some tricks involving using FactoryTalk View ME and creating a runtime file from the application. Anyway, I recommend reaching out to Rockwell's tech support if you've not done that already. They've likely seen this issue before and can possibly assist further. Also, there might be other members on this forum who've faced a similar problem and found a resolution. Best of luck!

Hi Ram, this sounds like quite a pickle you're in. From what it sounds like, you've pretty much tried everything in the book. However, one thing you might have overlooked is the file compatibility itself. It's possible that the PV550 file you're working with is corrupt or incompatible on a fundamental level. You could try opening it with different software or convert it to another format with a third-party tool. If you're unable to convert it with the tools you've got, I'd be happy to assist with this, just send me a private message. It's worth a shot before declaring the file a lost cause. Keep hanging in there!

Hi Ram! It sounds like you've really put in the effort to troubleshoot this issue—kudos for your persistence! One thing you might want to check is whether the file you're trying to upload is indeed compatible with the version of PanelBuilder you're using. Sometimes, files from earlier versions may not convert well if they contain features not supported in later software. If you have access to an older system that can still run PB32, it might help to open the file there and try saving it in a different format. Alternatively, reaching out to Rockwell's support might yield some insights, as they may have encountered similar cases. Hope you find a solution soon!

Hey Ram, it sounds really frustrating dealing with those compatibility issues! One thing to consider is checking the file system format of the storage medium you're using, as some older versions of the software can be picky about FAT vs. NTFS. Also, if you haven't already, it might be worth trying to open the files on a different machine with a clean environment just to rule out any local configuration issues. Sometimes even a small glitch can cause these errors. Lastly, have you reached out to any user forums or groups specifically for Rockwell products? There are often experienced folks who may have encountered your exact problem and could have specific fixes or even conversion tools. Good luck!

Hey Ram, it sounds like you've really put in the effort to troubleshoot this! Have you tried checking the file extension and ensuring that it matches the expected format for PB32? Sometimes even minor discrepancies can cause issues. Also, if you have access to the original application from which the file was created, using a different version of the software on a newer machine might help in exporting the file in a more compatible format. Additionally, connecting with someone who has experience with older systems—like forums dedicated to legacy software—might provide some tailored advice. Good luck!
