Hello everyone! I'm looking for recommendations on chairs and desks for commissioning work. I'm tired of using makeshift options like empty cable rolls or kegs, especially since kneeling on a cold floor is uncomfortable for my knees. I'm hoping to find something portable that I can strap to my laptop backpack, as I often have to walk long distances. Perhaps there is a laptop bag/chair/table combo available. Please share what chairs and desks you use for commissioning. Thank you! - Mark
I have come across several individuals using the Google Laptop Travel Tripod, but I personally prefer to simply request a table and chair from the customer to set up near the electrical cabinet. If these are not available or it is a brief assignment, I will make do with a cable drum or whatever is at hand.
One option is to use the customer's table and chair, but since you are inquiring about it, that doesn't seem feasible. Alternatively, if you will be in the same location for an extended period, consider purchasing an affordable folding table and chair from a retail store like Target or Walmart and expensing it. The customer will eventually provide a table regardless. A travel tripod may be more suitable if you anticipate moving frequently or working on short-term projects. In such cases, using a "top of panel" method or spools is common practice.
I always relied on mk42's second option for my needs. If there was a fold-down shelf in the electrical enclosure, I could simply purchase a chair and store it inside to keep it secure and stationary. This setup would prevent the chair from moving around on its own.
mk42 suggested two options for workspace setup: Option 1: using the customer's table and chair was not considered feasible. Option 2: If working in the same location for an extended period, purchasing an inexpensive folding table and chair from retailers like Target or Walmart and expensing it may be a more practical solution. In situations where mobility is key, such as upgrading firmware on multiple drives, a travel tripod may be preferable. Additionally, the makeshift solution of balancing equipment on nearby surfaces like the top of a panel or parts bin is also mentioned.
When it comes to portable seating solutions, a laptop tripod chair can make all the difference. As someone who is constantly on the move and visiting different locations, I have found these chairs to be a lifesaver. Not only are they versatile, but they also attract a lot of attention wherever I go. The adjustable height feature is perfect for anyone, whether you're looking for a low folding chair or need something tall enough for a 7-foot-tall person. Additionally, using speaker stands to mount the table on allows for a customizable and lightweight option. If you're interested in enhancing your on-the-go setup, a laptop tripod chair is a must-have.
Hey Mark, I totally understand the struggle of not having a comfortable workspace, especially if you're on the move. I personally use a portable laptop stand, "Roost". It's light, compact, and easily fits into my backpack. As for seating, when I'm out and about, I swear by my Trail Outdoor Leisure portable chair. It's surprisingly comfortable, lightweight and folds into a compact bag. As for a combo option, I'm not aware of any, but having these two separate entities have served me just fine. Hope this helps!
Hey Mark! Your situation definitely sounds inconvenient; I understand your need for comfort, especially when you're working. I suggest you check out the Sitpack 2.0. It's a collapsible chair that folds down to the size of a water bottle, perfect to strap onto your backpack. It's not exactly a desk, but it can take the edge off when you're working on the go. As for a portable desk, have a look at the 'StandStand' portable laptop stand. It’s lightweight and can easily fit in your backpack. Stay comfortable!
Hey Mark! I had the same issue a while back when I needed a portable working solution. You might want to check out Trekology's camping tables and chairs. They're light, sturdy, and super portable – they can be packed into a compact size that fits neatly into a backpack. As for your laptop, I recommend the Targus CityLite Pro, it gives good protection and has enough space for essentials. For combined table/bag options, something like the RoomyRoc mobile laptop desk bag could work well too, it has a built in desk platform!
Hi Mark! I completely understand the plight of not having a comfortable workspace, especially when you're on the move. While I'm not aware of a laptop bag/chair/table combo, you might like the "Stand Steady Joy Desk" as it's compact, lightweight, and easy to carry. As for a portable chair, the "Quik Chair Portable Folding Chair" has been a lifesaver for me - it's super light, durable, and has a carry bag. Do remember, though, it's equally important to get up and stretch every so often when working for long hours to avoid stiffness. Good luck with your search!
Hey Mark! I totally get your struggle with makeshift seating—it's not fun trying to work comfortably on the go. I recently came across a portable foldable chair made specifically for laptops that’s lightweight and fits easily into a backpack. There’s also a compact lap desk that has a built-in cushion, so it’s comfy to work on your knees or while sitting on the ground. Both items are pretty affordable and durable, making them great for commuting between sites. You might want to check out brands like Helinox or MoKo for some good options. Happy commissioning!
