Troubleshooting AMCI NXAE2 Resolver Module Configuration Issues

Question:

Is there anyone who has successfully installed and implemented code for the AMCI NXAE2 Resolver Module? I am currently working with a 5089-L340ERS2 PLC and have managed to install AMCI's EDS file and incorporate their AOI into my program following their example code. I am able to observe the resolver in action on my HMI screen and confirm communication between the module and the PLC. However, I am facing difficulties in modifying configuration settings such as direction (CW or CCW) or the Preset Value. Even though I can see my desired values in the PLC registers, I am unable to get them to transfer to the module. If there is anyone familiar with using this module, I would appreciate any insights on what I might be overlooking. - Steve

While I may not have direct experience with that particular module, I do know that module configuration is typically only transmitted upon initial module connection. However, if you need to make changes on the fly, you can try using SSV instructions to inhibit and uninhibit the module. While I can't guarantee that this will solve your specific issue, it is a good starting point to troubleshoot and make adjustments as needed.

While I haven't personally utilized that particular module, I have experience with similar in-chassis modules within the ControlLogix system. Specifically, when working with the 124x in-chassis module, I found that configuring it required the use of MSG instructions following the setup of configuration words. If you believe it would be beneficial, I am more than willing to discuss the strategies we implemented in that scenario.

Thank you for the responses - I was able to address my issue today and successfully resolved it. For those who may come across this in the future, the solution involved activating the "Program" AOI (AMCI_NXE2_program_ch1 as shown in their example) followed immediately by activating the "Apply Preset" AOI (AMCI_NXE2_Apply_preset_AOI) using the .DN bit from the "Program" AOI. Once the "Apply Preset" AOI finished, I utilized its .DN bit to restart the entire process. To set the "Preset Value" - which dictates the desired angle shown during updates - I used two BTD commands to input the INT value into registers 6 and 7 of the "Program" AOI output data (which utilizes SINT registers). I hope this explanation proves helpful.

Hi Steve, from the sounds of it, you've gotten quite far in your setup, which is a good start. However, sometimes the issue of reflecting changes in the module could be attributed to timing issues. Given that you are able to monitor the resolver, the communication isn't the issue. Always remember, any configuration change requires a cycle of the configuration process command (from a '0' to a '1') to acknowledge a new configuration setup. If you've tried all that and it still refuses to work, you might want to get a hold of AMCI support. They should be able to review your specific situation and may also be able to offer configuration solutions that are specifically suited to your PLC and module.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

FAQ: 1. How can I modify configuration settings such as direction (CW or CCW) or the Preset Value on the AMCI NXAE2 Resolver Module?

Answer: - To modify configuration settings on the AMCI NXAE2 Resolver Module, ensure that the values are correctly written to the PLC registers and then transferred to the module. Check for any errors in the communication setup or data transfer process.

FAQ: 2. Why am I facing difficulties in transferring my desired values to the AMCI NXAE2 Resolver Module even though they appear in the PLC registers?

Answer: - If you are encountering issues with transferring values to the module, double-check the data transfer mechanism between the PLC and the module. Verify the communication protocol, data format, and ensure that the correct addressing is used to send the values to the module.

FAQ: 3. How can I troubleshoot configuration issues with the AMCI NXAE2 Resolver Module?

Answer: - When troubleshooting configuration issues with the AMCI NXAE2 Resolver Module, review the setup steps, communication parameters, and data transfer procedures. Ensure that the module is properly configured to receive and process the configuration settings sent from the PLC. Consider reaching out to AMCI technical support for further assistance.

FAQ: 4. Is there a specific process or sequence to follow when configuring the AMCI NXAE2 Resolver Module with a 5089-L340ERS2 PLC?
