Greetings, currently I am utilizing the Allan-Bradley Logix5000 version 20 software to transfer our company's standardized code to our machinery. The download process has been seamless for me. However, when our IT support team tries to access the system using the same code, the controller prompts them to either upload or download their own code. This issue persists even if the IT support team downloads first and I try to log on afterward. Interestingly, this problem has occurred on both my old and new laptops. If this issue sounds familiar to anyone, I would greatly appreciate any assistance or insights. Thank you in advance for your help. - David
The latest update from Rockwell has caused some issues in Version 20, and possibly Version 21. It is crucial to ensure that minor revisions align perfectly. Please provide the version currently being used by your IT support team. If there is a discrepancy, it could be the source of the issue.
Thank you for responding. Regrettably, my IT support and I are both using version 20.05.
It appears that you are encountering issues with two different editions of the software.
To identify any differences between the IT laptop copy and your own copy, utilize a file compare tool. This will help you determine if there are any variations in the program. - James
Does the file contain a timestamp that is compared with the PLC to determine if it has been modified by someone in the IT department before closing it? I have encountered a similar situation where, even though no code was intentionally changed, performing a compile caused the projects to become unsynchronized and issued a warning about potential discrepancies between the online and offline programs.
Hey David, it sounds like a tricky situation. It could be that there's a user log-in conflict because of the real-time syncing system the Logix5000 software uses. I suggest you check the user settings, ensure each person has unique login credentials, and that these credentials have the proper permissions assigned. Also, have your IT team double-check if the firmware versions used on their end and your end are compatible. The machine's controller could be having difficulties working with two different versions simultaneously. Hope this helps!
Hi David! It sounds like your IT support team might be working with a different revision of your code or the PLC firmware. Please check the revision levels of the code versions you both are using. Also, make sure that both of you are using the same firmware on the Logix5000. Once you align these, you should not have the 'Upload/Download' prompt appearing. Hope this helps!
Hi David, it sounds like your controller is detecting a discrepancy between the file on the PC and the file in its memory. As a result, Logix5000 prompts whether you want to upload from (get code from controller) or download to (send code to controller), which is classic behavior. Are you and the IT team working on the same version of project file? Try to ensure that both you and IT support use the exact same code to avoid any mismatch. Additionally, you might also want to check on the permissions assigned to the IT team. Hope this helps!
Hi David, it sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating situation. This issue often arises from mismatched permissions or controller configuration settings. Have you checked the version of the code on the controller directly? Sometimes, if the version on the controller doesn't match the one in the software being used, it can cause those upload/download prompts. Also, make sure that both your user account and the IT team's account have the same access rights in the system. Lastly, it might help to ensure the project is set to allow version compatibility. Good luck, and I hope you find a resolution soon!
Hi David! It sounds like you're running into a common issue with version control and user permissions in Logix5000. One thing to check is if the IT support team is using a different version of the software or has different access rights that might be conflicting with your code. Sometimes, the controller can be picky about who makes changes, especially if it detects multiple users trying to upload or download simultaneously. Have you tried coordinating the access times or checking the settings on the controller to ensure that it recognizes your permissions? I hope that helps!
