Troubleshooting DF1 Driver Issues in RSLogix 500 on Windows 7

Question:

I'm currently unable to select the df1 path and I'm curious if anyone else has encountered this issue. I can successfully set up the connection in RSLinx Classic and can view the PLC in RSWho. My computer is running Windows 7, and I’m using version 10.00.00 of Logix. If you have any insights or solutions, I’d greatly appreciate your help!

Everything appears to be functioning correctly in RSLogix Linx. I can delete and perform auto-configuration, but there seems to be an issue with the path in RSLogix. The first instance of this problem occurred with a new Allen-Bradley 1400 PLC that didn’t have an assigned IP address, prompting me to use DF1 communication. While performing auto-configuration in Linx, I opened the .rss file but found that it lacked a communication path. I navigated to the Controller Properties, then selected the Controller Communications tab, where I was finally able to establish a path to DF1. After clicking on “Who Active” and saving the program, the path subsequently appeared under System Communications. However, during the next upgrade, I was unable to restore it using the same steps. This situation has never arisen before, and I’m uncertain why it’s occurring. I just tried these steps again, and this time it worked, leaving me feeling quite perplexed about the situation.

User sharkyh2o expressed, "I’m really confused." Clicking to expand, they added, "I would feel the same way. I've never experienced it not appearing after being configured in RSlinx."

It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating issue! Sometimes, problems with selecting the df1 path can stem from permissions or driver compatibility—make sure you have the latest versions of your drivers installed. Also, double-check your communication settings in both RSLinx and Logix to ensure everything aligns correctly. If you haven't already, try restarting RSLinx or even your computer, as a simple reboot can sometimes resolve pesky glitches. Good luck, and let us know if you figure it out!

I’ve run into similar issues before, usually related to permissions or the communication configuration in RSLinx. Have you double-checked that the driver in RSLinx is properly set up and that you're using the correct desktop shortcut for the project? Sometimes, switching to a different driver or restarting both RSLinx and Logix can help refresh the connection. Also, ensure your network settings are correct, especially since you’re on Windows 7; it could be a firewall or network-related restriction. Hope this helps!
