Troubleshooting FactoryTalk View ME Go to Display Button Bug

Question:

Hello everyone, while working on customizing an HMI in Factory Talk, I encountered an issue when trying to change a "go to display" button using the dropdown menu. Despite having done this task numerous times before, the program froze unexpectedly. I have attempted to resolve the issue by restarting my computer and trying again several times. Initially, I suspected that the program freeze could be due to upgrading its version, but even when testing on a new file, the same problem occurred. Has anyone else experienced a similar issue like this before?

Following this post, I came to the realization that it is time to download the latest patch in hopes of resolving the persisting issue. I am now looking to make the switch to version 14 with optimism that this will provide the solution.

If you have used multiple displays and have now returned to using just one, you may encounter a situation where a window opens on a missing display. This issue has been observed on the software Studio SE when attempting to access the tag browser. To avoid encountering this problem on ME, refer to the guide titled "FactoryTalk Studio SE Stalls when opening tag browser."

I agree, it appears as though the dialogue box is opening off screen, causing it to "freeze." To resolve this issue, follow these steps: Click on the button to select a display, ensure not to click anywhere else. Next, hold down the Windows key and press either the left or right arrow key a few times. By doing this while still holding down the WIN key, the picker should be brought back onto the main monitor.

Thank you so much! I am quite certain that was the issue, as I recently experienced the same problem when a window was partially off the screen in version 14. I had to utilize the arrow keys to bring it back into view.

That sounds quite frustrating! I've had a similar issue before with Factory Talk - sometimes it could be due to memory allocation. If your HMI screens are loaded with heavy graphics or complex scripts, it can lead to unexpected freezing. I suggest you try reducing the load, perhaps split your work across more screens. Also, make sure you run diagnostics for any script errors. Lastly, even though you tested on a new file, it might still worth to check whether a clean reinstall solves the problem.

Hey there, it indeed sounds like a frustrating situation. This does happen at times and could be related to various factors. One scenario could be that the upgraded version of Factory Talk might be having some compatibility issues with the Operating System or the hardware of your PC. Also, the graphics cards (especially the outdated ones) can pose such problems. If your issue isn't resolved by restarting or reinstalling the software, I'd suggest reaching out to Factory Talk support or your IT department. Another option worth trying is rolling back to the previous version that worked without issues until a more stable update is available.
