Hello everyone, I have been struggling for days to resolve a persistent issue and could really use some guidance. I am encountering fatal errors across multiple versions of software - V19.01, v20.05, V21, V24, V30, V31, V32, and V33. These errors occur when attempting to open or create a project. In V19 and V20, I receive an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION error, while V21 and above display an Invalid Pointer error. I have already taken several troubleshooting steps, such as reinstalling the factory talk services platform, running the program as administrator, clearing app data by holding shift and Ctrl while launching, and running in windows 7 compatibility mode. I have also confirmed that I have .NET 4.5.2 installed instead of 4.6. Furthermore, I reinstalled both V19 and V20 before realizing the issue affected all versions. I have even deleted my harmony files and converted a .l5k file back to a .ACD as suggested in a forum post. I am puzzled as this computer is shared and used for test benches, so any changes could have been made. Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Have you ever successfully tested this program on your computer? Can you set up a new "Test" Project? Have you verified if your LOGIX license is up to date and correct?
The last time I used this PC in early January, everything was functioning properly. However, when I attempted to create test projects in various versions, I encountered an error upon completion. I have noticed that my rslogix 5000 Pro activations are still present in my activation manager, suggesting that they have remained unchanged since the last time the PC was operational.
For optimal performance, it is recommended to download and install one of the Studio 5000 Multi Version Installation Packages provided by RA KB. The extended version is likely required for your needs. Access ID: IN10595 | Access Levels: Everyone. Find more information and instructions on the installation package here: rockwellautomation.custhelp.com/app/answers/answer_view/a_id/1089691SignIn.
To achieve success, click on the 5000.exe file and choose "run as administrator." This simple action can help you overcome common software issues and elevate your computer experience.
I reached out to Rockwell for assistance and successfully resolved the problem. It was discovered that an update had been made to the activation manager to version V5.01. If the Factorytalk services platform is below V6.30, installing Activation Manager V5.01 can lead to the critical errors that were mentioned. After updating my services platform, all L5K versions are now operational.
It sounds really frustrating to deal with those persistent errors! Since you've already tried a lot of common troubleshooting steps without success, have you checked if there are any conflicting applications or background services running that might interfere with the software? Sometimes programs like antivirus or even other software related to the same development environment can cause issues. Also, it might be worth creating a new user profile on your computer to see if the problem persists there, just to rule out any user-specific settings or permissions that could be causing the errors. Good luck, and I hope you find a solution soon!
It sounds like you've done a thorough job investigating this issue! Since the problem occurs across multiple versions and you've already tried some solid troubleshooting steps, I wonder if it could be related to a conflict with other software or drivers on your system—especially if the computer is shared and might have had different setups. Have you checked for any recent updates to your operating system or other software that might be interfering? Sometimes, rolling back a recent update or even testing in a clean Windows environment might help clarify if the issue is software-related. Also, it might be worth looking into any antivirus settings that could be blocking the software from functioning properly. Good luck, and keep us posted!
It sounds like you've already done an impressive amount of troubleshooting! Given that you've ruled out software reinstallation and compatibility issues, have you checked for any underlying hardware problems? Sometimes, faulty RAM or hard drive issues can cause access violations and pointer errors across multiple applications. Tools like MemTest86 for RAM or checking your drive's health with tools like CrystalDiskInfo might help pinpoint if something's going wrong at that level. Also, consider looking into antivirus settings, as they can occasionally interfere with software operations too. Good luck, and I hope you find a resolution soon!
