Hello, as mentioned in the title, I am encountering font issues after restoring an HMI project from a .apa file in FactoryTalk View Studio - View Machine Edition version 14.00.00 (CPR 9 SR 14). The fonts on my graphic display appear distorted, making it challenging to work with. Have you faced similar problems before or do you have any tips on resolving this issue? Your insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
When working with fonts, it's important to note the difference between the desired and actual font being used. In the latest version 11, Arial Unicode MS has replaced Arial as the default font. If you're seeing a "weird" font that you weren't expecting, it could be due to the font defaulting to Arial Unicode MS because the selected font isn't supported on your system. Make sure you have the necessary support installed for the font you actually want to use.
Thank you for your prompt reply. The HMI displays were created on a different computer, which is why the font appears different in the initial design (left side of the screenshot). To achieve the desired font, I have to first select a different font and then switch back to Arial Unicode MS. However, when I restore the project, the fonts revert to a different version of Arial Unicode MS, rather than the desired one seen in the screenshot (1/00 - Outdoor air temperature). In summary, I aim to have all fonts matching the preferred style displayed at the top (1/00 - Outdoor air temperature), but the restoration process alters them.
It seems that the SizeToFit feature is affecting the sizing of text objects. When Arial Unicode MS is not available on another computer, the text objects are resized to fit the dimensions of Arial. It is considered a best practice to avoid using SizeToFit and ensure that all text objects have consistent dimensions for optimal design.
I wasn't aware that this option was available. I'll make sure to update all text objects accordingly. Thank you for your help!
Hey there! I faced a similar issue a while back. It turned out to be a configuration setting within Windows itself rather than an issue with FactoryTalk. Check your Windows display settings and make sure that the 'Scale and layout' option is set to 100%. Also, ensure you're using the recommended screen resolution. Changing these may fix your font distortion issue in FactoryTalk. Hope this helps!
It sounds like your issue might be due to an incompatibility between the fonts used in the .apa file and those installed on your current system. I'd advise checking whether the original font files are available or if there are any errors reported within FactoryTalk regarding missing fonts. If that's the case, installing the requisite fonts should rectify the issue. Additionally, if you're transitioning between different versions of FactoryTalk, in my experience, it's not uncommon to encounter some graphic anomalies. A thorough clean-up uninstalls and reinstalls of the software might help too.
Hey there, I experienced something similar before. It turned out, the problem was due to a mismatch between the display settings of my PC and the HMI. You could check if your screen resolution or scaling settings on the PC are causing the problem. Also, ensure that you’re using a font that's compatible with both the HMI and your PC. One more thing, have you tried reinstalling the software or updating to the latest version? Sometimes, minor glitches like this can be fixed with a simple update. Hope this helps!
Hey there, I've experienced a similar issue in the past. What worked for me was checking if the fonts used in the project are installed on the PC. Sometimes, missing fonts can cause this kind of distortion. If that's the case, install the necessary fonts, reopen your project, and the issue should ideally be resolved. Additionally, ensure your screen resolution settings match the original project settings. If these steps don't work, you might want to consider reaching out to Rockwell Automation's technical support. They have been very helpful in my experience. Keep us posted on your progress!
Hey there! I’ve run into similar font issues after restoring from an .apa file too, and it can be pretty frustrating. One thing that helped me was checking the font settings in the project properties to ensure they match what was originally used. Also, sometimes re-installing the fonts or even switching to a common default font can resolve the distortion. If that doesn’t do the trick, consider reaching out to Rockwell support, as they might have updates or patches specifically for version 14.00.00 that could help. Good luck!
