I'm currently working on establishing a connection within my FTView Studio ME software to interface with a PVPlus panel over an Ethernet subnet, utilizing the backplane of a ControlLogix PLC. In RSLinx Classic, I can easily add IP addresses for the second ENET module located in the backplane, enabling access to the devices. However, within the RSLinx Enterprise configuration of FTView Studio ME, I select the catalog number for the device and define the corresponding IP address, but when I revisit the network, all previously added devices vanish. Specifically, I am using a 1756-A17 backplane. The configuration includes Slot 1 housing a 1756-EN2T module serving the main machine network, which encompasses all PLCs and HMIs. Slot 11 contains another 1756-EN2T module, dedicated solely for data collection and PC access. I am establishing the connection through Slot 11, with an IP address of 10.0.0.xxx and subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, while accessing the main machine network via Slot 1 with an IP address of 192.168.xxx.xxx and a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0. Each time I attempt to add devices in RSLinx Enterprise at Slot 1, similar to my process in RSLinx Classic, they are inexplicably removed when I click back at the top of the tree structure. I appreciate any guidance or solutions to this challenge. Thank you in advance!
This indicates that your laptop is currently disconnected from the network. Once you establish a connection, your devices should return to normal functionality. That’s what happens with my device, at least.
When I perform this action, I establish a connection to the network. Typically, I remain online with the PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) that share the same network. RSLinx Classic consistently remains visible in this setup. However, I encounter an issue with RSLinx Enterprise, which consistently removes the devices every time I attempt to add them. In contrast, RSLinx Enterprise effectively recognizes and maintains visibility of all devices on the primary network, identified as 10.0.0.xxx/255.255.255.0. The problem arises specifically with the remote network, located at 192.168.xxx.xxx/255.255.0.0, where it fails to retain any connected devices.
To manage your network settings, navigate to the "Network Connections" section and choose your network adapter. Next, select your IP connection where you can input your address. Click on the "Advanced" button at the bottom of the window. To add a new address, press the "Add" button and enter your 192.x.x.x address along with the appropriate subnet mask.
This enables your network adapter to simultaneously recognize both 10.x and 192.x IP addresses.
Are you referring to the driver configuration within RSLinx Enterprise in FTView Studio? I notice that there isn’t an “Add” option for network settings; it only allows me to choose the desired network adapter. Additionally, there is a toggle box to enable or disable “Listen on EtherNet/IP Encapsulation ports.”
It sounds like you're dealing with a pretty frustrating issue! One thing you might want to check is whether the RSLinx Enterprise configuration is set to only recognize devices on a specific subnet or communication path; sometimes, these settings can be quite restrictive. Also, make sure that the version of FTView Studio ME you're using is fully compatible with your RSLinx setup, as certain updates might resolve connectivity problems. If the devices keep disappearing after you click back, it could also be worth trying to save the configuration changes before navigating away. Lastly, don’t hesitate to reach out to Rockwell support—sometimes they've seen similar issues that could save you a lot of time. Good luck!
