Troubleshooting GE Fanuc 90-30 Software Compatibility with ECLiPS Software

Question:

Hello everyone! I have experience working with GE PLCs using Proficy software, but I have encountered machines programmed with ECLiPS software that I am unfamiliar with. I am currently unable to access the ECLiPS software. Can I still use Proficy software to upload and work with programs on PLCs that have been programmed with ECLiPS software? I have attempted to upload the program to my PC via RS 232, but have not been successful. Any tips or advice on how to successfully upload the program would be greatly appreciated.

Originally developed for a programmable coprocessor module, ECLiPS was a unique State Logic control engine. Subsequently, a State Logic CPU module for the 90-30 was introduced. As of now, there is no information on a conversion to Proficy. For assistance, consider reaching out to Cimtec in Charlotte, North Carolina. They specialize in legacy GE equipment and may have the expertise to support your needs. Visit their website at http://www.cimtecautomation.com/ for more information.

A few months ago, I conducted research and found that GE-IP still owns Eclips, but the technology is outdated and no longer supported. For more information, refer to Chapter 9 of the manual available at http://support.ge-ip.com/support/index?page=docchannel&id=S:DO696. Although I have the software and a parallel port key, I have not used them in almost a decade. My recommendation is to create a detailed sequence of operations for the process and transfer it to your preferred processor, as we did in a similar situation. The customer had success using a printed StateLogic program as the sequence of operations.

Looking for a previous version of ECLiPS to reprogram a State Logic Processor for a pharmaceutical machine. The current situation requires a program reload, but without ECLiPS, transferring programs may not be possible. Considering an expedited upgrade, but the validation process alone will take around 4 weeks. I have managed to connect with Hyperterminal and familiarized myself with commands like P. for program specification, H. for halt, and F. for force. Any suggestions on where to find an older version of ECLiPS for this task?

It appears that without ECLiPS software, they may be at a disadvantage. A license dongle is also required for download. Consider reaching out to Cimtec Automation, known for their expertise in vintage GE equipment. The ECLiPS software, a DOS application, may require an older PC to run. It is surprising that a company managing a validated pharmaceutical line did not retain the essential tools for maintenance. Explore GE Automation and Controls parts at cimtecautomation.com.

Hello everyone, I hope you can give it a try as I have already uploaded the ECLiPS software, including the OnTop feature for ECLiPS.

Hey there! While Proficy and ECLiPS are both GE products, they operate differently, and Proficy may not be able to directly read or upload ECLiPS programs since they use distinct architectures and file formats. A couple of things you might try are checking the connection settings and making sure that you’re using the correct baud rate for your RS 232 connection. If you still can’t access the ECLiPS software, it might be worth reaching out to a colleague who has experience with ECLiPS to see if they can help or at least allow you to get a copy of the program file you need. Good luck!

Hey there! It's definitely tricky when transitioning between different PLC programming environments. Unfortunately, Proficy software isn't typically compatible with ECLiPS programs, so you won't be able to upload or edit those directly. If you don't have access to the ECLiPS software, one suggestion would be to reach out to someone who does and see if they can export the code or at least share the logic with you. Additionally, you might want to check if any hardware-specific drivers or communication settings are causing issues with your RS-232 connection. Good luck!
