Troubleshooting High and Low EU properties in FTView SE conversion from RSView

Question:

Hello, I recently upgraded from RSView 32 to FTView SE 14, after testing FTView 12 and encountering some difficulties. However, I am facing an issue when running the application - it shows an error message stating "Unable to animate object "Group114". The tag (#367\RUN_FDBK)" does not support the "High EU" property. This problem is occurring with multiple tags, and I have been unable to find any documentation on how to resolve it. Additionally, I have noticed that the system/BlinkFast feature is much slower in FTView SE compared to RSView. Can anyone provide guidance on how to address these issues? Thank you.

Check out our Tech Note on how to sign in and update your animation to utilize Constant Values instead of Min/Max for a more precise and consistent result.

FactoryTalk View offers support for Direct Reference Tags and HMI Tags. When using HMI Tags in FTV, you must create and configure a tag with properties such as analog or digital, min/max values, scaling, and description. RSView32 also had similar functionality to HMI tags. On the other hand, Direct Reference tags in FTV do not require any setup; you simply point to an existing tag in your data source (PLC) to retrieve the current value only, without additional information like a description or min/max values. If your animation requires the use of min and max values, it is best suited for an HMI tag rather than a direct reference. You may need to manually enter the min and max values for direct references. Additionally, it appears that using parameters with HMI Tags (such as #367) could potentially limit the support for tag min and max values through a parameter. To address any issues with tag updating speed, such as with the BlinkFast tag, you can adjust the update rate of the display in FTV for faster updates. Unlike RSView32, FTV does not utilize scan classes. It is essential to specify the min and max values as needed for smooth functioning of your HMI display in FactoryTalk View.

In a comment by user robertmee, he suggests checking out the Tech Note regarding signing in and changing animation settings to utilize Constant Value instead of Min/Max. This change can help improve the animation. Thank you for the suggestion, I will definitely give it a try.

Operaghost mentioned that FactoryTalk View supports Direct Reference Tags and HMI Tags. HMI Tags require creating and configuring a tag in FTV, including properties such as analog or digital values, scaling, and description. Direct Reference tags, on the other hand, do not need setup in FTV; they simply point to existing tags in the PLC data source. However, using direct references only provides the current tag value without additional information like descriptions or min/max values. To address this, manual entry of min and max values may be necessary. When using parameters (#367) with HMI Tags, it's possible that utilizing the tag's min and max values may not be supported through a parameter. To resolve this, specifying the min and max values is recommended. Additionally, for the BlinkFast tag to update faster on the display, adjusting the update rate is necessary, as FTV does not have scan classes like RSView32. It's suggested to try these adjustments and see if they work. It is unfortunate that Rockwell does not openly share this information.

It sounds like you’re dealing with a couple of frustrating issues! For the “High EU” property error, it’s worth checking if your tags are properly configured in the data server; sometimes, certain properties need to be defined for the tags to animate correctly. Make sure that the tags in question indeed have a high and low engineering unit set up, as FTView SE can be a bit more particular about this than RSView. As for the BlinkFast speed, you might want to experiment with the refresh rate settings or check if there are any updates that address performance. If all else fails, reaching out to Rockwell support might yield some quicker solutions! Good luck!

It sounds like you’re running into some common issues when upgrading to FTView SE. The “unable to animate object” error usually happens when there’s a mismatch in your tag settings, particularly if they don’t have the appropriate engineering units defined or if the datatype is incompatible with the "High EU" property. Double-check your tags in the Data Server configuration to ensure everything is set up correctly. As for the BlinkFast functionality, you might want to explore adjusting the update rate settings or reviewing the project’s animation settings, as they can differ significantly between RSView and FTView. If problems persist, checking the Rockwell Automation forums might yield some useful tips from others who have faced similar challenges. Hopefully, this helps!

It sounds like you’re dealing with a couple of frustrating issues after your upgrade. For the "High EU" property error, it might help to check if the tags in question are set up correctly in the tag database; sometimes those parameters need to be explicitly defined. Also, ensure that each tag is properly configured with the right data types that support all the properties you're trying to use. As for the performance of the system/BlinkFast feature, consider adjusting your display settings or reducing the number of active objects to see if that improves the refresh rate. Sometimes, larger graphics or a high number of running scripts can bog down performance. Hope this helps!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

FAQ: 1. What could be the reason for the error message "Unable to animate object" when converting from RSView to FTView SE?

Answer: Answer: The error message "Unable to animate object" may be due to tags not supporting the "High EU" property in FTView SE, causing issues during the conversion process.

FAQ: 2. How can I resolve the issue of tags not supporting the "High EU" property in FTView SE?

Answer: Answer: To resolve this issue, you may need to review the tags causing the problem and adjust their properties or configurations to ensure compatibility with the "High EU" property in FTView SE.

FAQ: 3. Why is the system/BlinkFast feature slower in FTView SE compared to RSView?

Answer: Answer: The difference in performance of the system/BlinkFast feature between FTView SE and RSView could be due to various factors such as configuration settings, system resources, or compatibility issues. It is recommended to optimize settings and configurations in FTView SE to improve performance.

FAQ: 4. Where can I find documentation or resources to help address conversion issues and performance differences between RSView and FTView SE?

Answer: Answer: You may refer to Rockwell Automation's official documentation, user manuals, forums, or reach out to their support team for guidance on resolving conversion issues and optimizing performance in FTView SE.
