Hello everyone, I am currently experiencing an issue with my HMI push buttons and indicators displaying errors when navigating to a new screen. My setup consists of a Micrologix 1500 connected to a PanelView Plus 700 via serial communication using a 1761-CBL-PM02.SER.C cable with a NULL modem. The PanelView is running on V5.1. Upon loading the HMI, all buttons and indicators function correctly, allowing for state changes on the PLC end when activated. However, after navigating to a different screen and returning, many buttons and indicators show error states. Even though the PLC receives state changes when the buttons are pressed, the buttons themselves remain in error. Has anyone else faced this issue before? Any insights or solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Are the buttons on the device configured to have distinct values and indicator options in their connections settings? Is there any specific criteria or parameters that need to be taken into consideration during setup?
plvlce inquired if the buttons in question have distinct sections for Value and Indicator within their connections tab, and if any parameters are in play. Typically, when buttons transition to an error state, the indicator value is distinct from the Value bit, with no parameter files in use. However, some buttons do overlap in using the same bit for both Value and Indicator, leading to an error state.
Typically, an error state on an HMI indicates difficulty in determining the accurate display status, often stemming from communication issues. Despite button functionality, the problem may lie with specific connections rather than overall failure. Can you provide examples of the Value/Indicator settings for a handful of the impacted buttons?
Before making any assumptions, it is important to validate that you are indeed returning to the correct screen and not a similar one with a different name. To do so, consider adding a new element to the screen and ensure it is visible upon rebooting the Human Machine Interface (HMI). Then, navigate away from the screen and back to it when encountering errors. Check if the new element remains present to confirm you are on the correct screen.
In response to kekrahulik's query, are you absolutely sure that you are returning to the exact same screen and not a similar one under a different name? If you have the ability to customize the screen, experiment by adding a new element to it. Ensure that the element is displayed when the HMI system boots up and appears visually correct. Proceed to navigate away from the screen and then return when encountering errors. Check if the new element remains visible. In my own attempt at this, I encountered the same issue. I introduced a button that shared the same tags as one of the buttons causing errors. Upon returning to the screen, the new button was still present but displayed an error status as well.
It sounds like a frustrating issue! It might be worth checking the data tags associated with your buttons and indicators to ensure they are correctly linked after navigating screens. Sometimes, if the HMI forgets the state or gets momentarily disconnected from the PLC, it can cause those indicators to show errors. You could also try unloading and reloading the application on the PanelView or looking for any updates that might address this behavior. Let us know if any of that helps!
It sounds like you've already done a great job troubleshooting, but this issue could stem from a few different things. One possibility is that the screen navigation isn't properly refreshing the button states after returning, which can happen if the tags are not configured correctly or if thereβs a problem with the data connections between the HMI and PLC. Iβd recommend checking the tag configurations to ensure they are set to read/write as needed and possibly implementing a screen initialization logic when returning to the previous screen. Sometimes, refreshing the HMI or even reloading the application can resolve these glitches. Good luck, and I hope you find a solution soon!
It sounds like you might be running into a common issue with the PanelView's screen transitions not correctly updating the button states or the associated tags in the PLC. Have you checked if the tags for the buttons and indicators are properly configured to update on screen load? Sometimes adding a "Refresh" action in your screen's "On Enter" event can help reset their states when you return to the original screen. Also, ensure that the HMI's communication settings match the PLC, and double-check your tag mappings for any discrepancies. Hope that helps!

Answer: Answer: This issue might occur due to a communication problem between the HMI and the PLC, causing the buttons and indicators to show error states despite the PLC receiving state changes.
Answer: Answer: The error in the HMI buttons could be related to the screen navigation process, software version compatibility, cable connection issues, or configuration settings.
Answer: Answer: Troubleshooting steps may involve checking the communication settings, cable connections, software versions, screen navigation logic, and ensuring proper configurations for the HMI and PLC devices.
