Troubleshooting lack of voltage output on Powerflex 525 drive - motor not turning

Question:

Hello everyone, I am currently experiencing an issue with my Powerflex 525 drive where there is a lack of voltage output to the motor. I recently reset the drive to factory defaults and placed stop and safety jumpers for testing. Despite the drive fan operating and the control panel displaying the hz ramp up, there is still no voltage detected at the u v w terminals. Surprisingly, no faults are being displayed. Can anyone provide insights on what the possible issue might be? Thank you.

FriendlySteaK inquired about a powerflex 525 drive issue where no voltage is reaching the motor. The drive was reset to factory settings for testing, with stop and safety jumpers in place. The drive's fan is running, and the control panel indicates the frequency is ramping up, but there is no voltage at the u v w terminals. Despite no fault codes being displayed, the issue persists. Any ideas on what might be causing this? Your insights are greatly appreciated!

This issue appears to be widespread among devices in this drive family. For more information and related discussions, please visit the following link: http://www.plctalk.net/qanda/showthread.php?t=133005.

The motor is successfully connected and operational through a separate VFD. Adequate voltage is present at the DC bus, and the controller should trigger a fault if the voltage exceeds or falls below the specified range. The drive is currently operating under default V/Hz control mode. When the start command is activated, the controller shows a ramp-up in hertz, adjusting based on the setting of the onboard potentiometer.

It seems like there may be an issue with the connection between control and IGBT, or possibly a defective IGBT component. This could be causing an operational problem that needs to be addressed to ensure smooth functioning of the system.Issues with IGBT control can lead to malfunctions in electrical systems, so it's crucial to address any potential disconnect or faulty components promptly.

It is likely a common issue with the 525 model to require a replacement of the power module.

Hi there! It sounds like you've taken some solid troubleshooting steps already. Since you're not seeing any faults and the drive fan is running fine, it's baffling to find no voltage at the output terminals. One probability is that your Powerflex 525 could be stuck in programming mode, which can sometimes happen after a reset. It's worth checking to ensure it's in the run command mode instead. Also, verify the settings of your drive such as the Motor Control Mode (Parm 23), Maximum Output Frequency (Parm 36) and Minimum Output Frequency (Parm 37). Incorrect settings might also lead to such voltage issues. Keep us posted!

Hi there! It sounds like a complex issue, but one thing you might want to consider is verifying if the parameter settings are correct, especially after resetting the drive to its factory defaults. Different modes of operation require different configurations. Also check the Bypass/Drive selector switch, if your Powerflex 525 is equipped with it. Another aspect could be an issue with your 'Output Phase Loss' parameter. It may not be triggering an error if set improperly. Remember, it's not just about if everything is operational, but whether they are configured to work together correctly. Hope this helps!

Hey there, it definitely sounds like a perplexing issue. One potential cause might be a discrepancy between your programming and the type of control you're using, maybe voltage/frequency (V/Hz) or sensorless vector control. Another point worth checking might be loose connectors, as sometimes in the process of resetting, connectors might get loosened, disrupting the voltage output. It's also worth checking the drive's power stage, as this can often affect the voltage delivery despite all appearances suggesting the drive is working normally. If you've covered all these areas and the issue persists, it might be time to call in for professional help or even consider replacing the unit.
