Troubleshooting Offline Tag File Connection Issue in FactoryTalk View Studio for Runtime Configuration

Question:

Hello everyone, I am currently unable to establish a connection with the controller. I utilized the offline tag file along with the .ACD project file. When I try to create the runtime application, I receive a warning message. Is there a way to resolve this issue without being connected online to the controller? Thank you in advance. The FactoryTalk Linx Conversion Messages warning states: "Unconfigured shortcut detected - Shortcut name = 'PanelViewApp'. The system has identified that this shortcut has not been linked to a device on the Runtime (Target) tab. If this shortcut is utilized in the application, runtime errors may occur. The validation process has been completed with warnings, and the runtime application has been successfully generated."

When you see a warning about a shortcut setup, such as (PLC), in FactoryTalk Linx's Communication Setup, it means you have configured a connection for FactoryTalk View Studio to use when testing displays. The Design (Local) tab is where you set up the connection for testing, while the Runtime (Target) connection is for communication with a controller on a PanelView. Configuring the communication path can be challenging, especially if the desired device is not already in the tree. Before transferring the new runtime to the PanelView and starting the application, make sure the runtime target is set to enable proper functionality beyond screen navigation. To test the application without connecting to a controller, use Application -> Test Application to create an ME Runtime on your computer. The offline file is solely for importing tags into the program without controller connectivity and cannot be used to test the application. True testing can only occur by connecting to a controller.

In order to successfully run this app, a connection to the controller is required for configuring it during runtime. Once the panel view app is installed, the controller's IP address is known. Is there a manual method available to set up a runtime configuration using this information?

Yes, the controller does not need to be connected for setting up communications. To begin, identify the PLC type and version you are using. In the runtime tab, simply right click on the Ethernet Adapter and select Add Device. Look for the PLC, typically under EtherNetIP Devices, and choose the Major Revision that corresponds with your ACD. Provide a name and IP address for the device. After completing these steps, ensure to highlight the newly added device in the communication window and click Apply in the Device Shortcuts section. Another option is to configure everything in the design tab and then use the Copy from Design to Runtime feature. Whichever method you choose, remember to select the device and click apply. Following these steps, you should be able to create your runtime without encountering any warnings.

Thank you, you're amazing!
