Troubleshooting OMRON PLC C200HX and C200HS Software Backups: Invalid Mnemonics Issue in Syswin 3.4 and CX Programmer

Question:

I own OMRON PLC models C200HX and C200HS and need to back up the software. I attempted to do so using Syswin 3.4 and CX Programmer software, but encountered issues during program verification (Invalid Mnemonics). The problematic rungs in the Ladder diagram are marked in red. These PLCs were programmed with CAPs software. Can anyone provide or point me towards where I can obtain the CAPs software? Alternatively, does anyone know how to successfully back up PLC programs in this scenario? Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Warm regards, Peter.

What are your country settings in Windows- are you using '.' or ',' as the decimal separator? Make sure to check and adjust your settings accordingly for accurate data entry.

Seppoalanen, are you referring to the regional settings on my laptop? They are set to English (United States) with the number decimal symbol as "." and digit grouping symbol as ",". Additionally, the list separator is also set as ",".

Upon receiving the CAPS software, it is imperative to utilize the "Optimize code" feature located on the main menu in order to ensure compatibility with all Omron software. This step is essential for seamless integration and hassle-free operation.

I utilize the software program Caps on a daily basis, which was created by Mike Morgan who has since retired due to health reasons. Unfortunately, without a key, the software is rendered useless. Despite my attempts to acquire an additional key, I have been unsuccessful thus far. Additionally, I also work with CX Programmer to backup Caps programs, although translating comments can be challenging. Overall, it is often simpler to manually retype the comments.

According to David Reitz, having the software without the key is pointless as it requires the key to function properly. This belief has been prevalent among CAPS users until Jay introduced a new solution. While I have yet to test it, if it works, owners of dongles can finally relax as they won't have to constantly worry about losing the key. It's great to see that CAPS is still in use, which will surely please Mike. Although I communicated with him via email a few years ago, I have not had any contact with him since. Cheers, Eric.

Hi Peter! I can understand your frustration with trying to back up your OMRON PLC programs. Since the CAPs software is specifically designed for those models, it’s definitely the right tool for the job. You might have some luck checking online forums or OMRON’s support channels, as sometimes users share older software versions. Additionally, if there's a local OMRON branch or distributor, they might be able to assist you in obtaining a copy. As for the verification errors, it might help to double-check the ladder logic for any syntax issues, or perhaps try to convert the project to a compatible format if possible before backing it up. Good luck, and I hope you find the software soon!
